I'm surprised you mentioned 2007/08.
Are you seriously suggesting that one of Del Piero, Raul and Maldini had a better season than Cristiano Ronaldo ?
The guy won CL and EPL, being the top scorer in both these competitions and being the best scorer in Europe.

In 2003 none of them was better than Nedved. In 1997/98 (for ballon d'or they count only the calendar year) Del Piero was great. Unfortunately, he was injured in the second part of the year and he had a bad world cup. Zidane on the other hand shined in the world cup, he won it, and he was consistently great during the year.

That's what i'm telling you. Del Piero is a legend, a top class footballer, but there wasn't a year when he was the best in the world and to win ballon d'or you have to be the best one in the particular year.

I know it sounds unfair but that's the way it is and the way it should be. It's a prize for the best footballer of the calendar year. In theory, you can be an average player but you can have an amazing year where you'll win bunch of trophies and then you can be an awful player till the end of your career, but that particular year when you were the best in the world will get you the ballon d'or.

in 97/98 Zidane was only better than Del Piero during the WC. Anyway, I don't really care about the Ballon d'or, too many Legends haven't won that, but thats part of Football.

In 1997/98 Del Piero was head and sholders above Zidane, i agree. But like i told you, they don't count it as 1997/98. They count it from January 1 till December 31.
Del Piero played great in the first 5 months of the year but he had a bad world cup and then in September/October he got the horror injury.
I guess that's what eliminated him. They thought that 5 months weren't enough to win. (which sucks tbh, because some players win this shit mostly because of a great world cup. Cannavaro is a perfect example)
On the other hand Zidane was great throughout the year and he won the world cup.

Even if we won the CL i doubt Del Piero would have won it over Zidane. Both of them would have played in the CL winning squad and it'd have made Zidane's case even stronger.

Thats true. It sucks but we have to get used to it.

I don't even think he wastes his time thinking about Ballon d'or looking at everything he's got or made and achieved to himself. Wont talk about trophies or anything but only about his fans like you said.

I think It makes him more happy to see all these people supporting him and having him as an idol rather than winning a prize.

C. Ronaldo was obviously the best in 2007/08 season and there is no doubt that he will get Ballon d'or this year and I think it's right to take into account, not only domestic season, but also team's achievements on eurotournaments and World Cups while choosing the player for this prize

Im gutted Alex hasnt been selected as a candidate for the Ballon d'or considering some of the clowns that have been selected.

Heres the list:

Adebayor (Togo, Arsenal); Aguero (Argentina, Atletico Madrid); Arshavin (Russia, Zenit); Ballack (Germany, Chelsea); Benzema (France, Lyon); Buffon (Italy, Juventus); Casillas (Spain, Real Madrid); Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal, Manchester United); Drogba (Ivory Coast, Chelsea); Eto`o (Cameroon, Barcelona); Fabregas (Spain, Arsenal); Fernando Torres (Spain, Liverpool); Gerrard (England, Liverpool); Ibrahimovic (Sweden, Inter); Kaka (Brazil, Milan); Lampard (England, Chelsea); Messi (Argentina, Barcelona); Pepe (Portugal, Real Madrid); Ribery (France, Bayern Munich); Rooney (England, Manchester United); Senna (Spain, Villarreal); Sergio Ramos (Spain, Real Madrid); Toni (Italy, Bayern Munich); Van der Sar (Holland, Manchester United); Van der Vaart (Holland, Hamburg/Real Madrid); Van Nistelrooy (Holland, Real Madrid); Vidic (Serbia, Manchester United); Villa (Spain, Valencia); Xavi (Spain, Barcelona); Zhirkov (Russia, CSKA Moscow)
Names bolded shouldn't be on that list IMO....

i agree, del piero was amazing that year, but the injury and poor world cup messed it up for him, i can see why they gave it to zidane, great club season, world cup win as opposed to del piero's outstanding club season, poor world cup, the sad thing is for half that year del piero was without doubt the best player in the world, but over the whole year you can see why they gave it to zidane, del just happned to be unlucky with the competition that season (zidane and ronaldo)

If that is the case then Del Piero should've won the 1997 award ;) led his team to both Scudetto and CL final.

I thought she'd be less surprised since she has previous experience with Ranieri while he was at Valencia.
Oh, but this is the new version, Ranieri 2.0 . This one comes with better understanding of the game, improved decision making and give or take 3 facial expressions...

Alex believes in united Juve

Alessandro Del Piero has faith that Juventus will step up to the mark against Real Madrid and escape their current crisis.

Claudio Ranieri's job is hanging by a thread after Saturday's defeat against Napoli.

Many people believe that Ranieri will be axed if the Old Lady fail to see off Real Madrid in tomorrow's Champions League game.

“We have a great desire to react and I'm sure that everyone will do whatever they can to get through this tough time,” Del Piero said.

“It wasn't a lack of desire that cost us on Saturday. We worked hard in the week, but the process is a slow one in reality.

“Games like tomorrow evening's can inspire us. It's not about the future of the club or the Coach but about all of us.

“We all know that we can give something extra - we are all on the same ship and we will succeed together.”

Alex seems really fired up for this one, his words in the press this week are even motivating me, i hope his teammates show the same enthusiasm as him.
