Del Piero Ahead Of Cassano With Bookmakers

The Italian bookmakers favour Alessandro Del Piero to be selected ahead of Antonio Cassano for Euro 2008.

Both forwards have been in stunning form this calendar year, and many believe it is a straight face-off between the duo to see who is selected by Coach Roberto Donadoni for Euro 2008.

Del Piero had seemed well out of the running a few months ago, as he has not played for his country since last September, and has not scored for almost two years, his last goal coming in the dramatic semi-final victory over Germany at the 2006 World Cup.

However The Golden Boy has rolled back the years recently for Juventus, and Donadoni appeared to confirm last week that he would be taking the 33-year-old to the Euros.

Cassano meanwhile has also forced his way into contention with a string of inspirational performances for Sampdoria, leading the port club to the cusp of a Champions League place.

However the Italian bookmakers believe that Del Piero will win Donadoni’s nod of approval, and favour him over Cassano.

Del Piero has also been included in Panini’s Euro 2008 sticker album. The other three strikers on the Italy page are Luca Toni, Antonio Di Natale, and Fabio Quagliarella.

Del Piero is atleast a zillion miles ahead of Cassano when it comes to making the Euro squad. The latter isnt even in contention for a Euro spot.I cant believe people still think that there's some chance of Cassano going to the Euros.

Count Del Piero already at Euros. This is all just media bullshit, trying just to confuse people.

There's no way Donadoni is going to leave him in Italy no matter how retarded he really is.

I think Donadoni's OK, but time will tell.

I think he is slightly over zealous about sticking to his system, rather than necessarily playing the best players.

Despite his willingness to play his 4-3-3, I don't see why Del piero shouldn't be chosen. What if his plan backfires or is need to change to a 4-4-2 for whatever reason? He would need players that are used to the conventional 4-4-2, not to mention Del piero's experience that would be crucial for Italy.

What do you guys think of Pippo making the squad? I think it would be ridiculous if he does considering he scores 1 out of every 736587893 clear cut chances but you never know what goes on inside Donadoni's head.

I would take Del Piero because he offers the chance to play with a SS. You need versatility in a squad.

Inzaghi is very close to playing himself into the squad.

Donadoni will take Quaggy for sure though, which means both Ale and Cassano won't be able to make the team. I too prefer Cassano from Quaggy, in fact, I think Quagliarella is just a little bit overrated.

I agree.Inzaghi's irritating, but he seems to be in the right place at the right time when it matters. He'll get caught offside a million times, but he wont stop making those runs. He'll keep on making those runs over and over again regardless of how many times theh linesman raises his flag, and one of these times he'll break the offside trap and score. He'll like an annoying like girlfriend that you want to break up with and she wont let you do it..but it works.

I'd take the both of them, but if I have to pick it's not much of a contest. Cassano has scored what, 8 goals? It's not even close.

@people who think DP won't go: he's already on the list ;).

lol at the second bit for all those who can read italian, ronaldo
His first reaction after being caught with three transsexuals was even better:

"Come on guys, I'm recovering from a bad injury and I felt a bit down. I just wanted to have some fun."

Almost makes it cool :D.
