Despite scoring in Juventus’ 4-0 thrashing of the Chinese Olympic side on Sunday, captain Alessandro Del Piero claims there is work to be done.

“Today’s game was a step in the right direction and I’m happy with how things are going so far, but I still need to improve,” the 32-year-old told gathered reporters after the game.

The talismanic Bianconero has been blighted by injury problems this summer, but he shrugged off any niggles to play a key role in the Old Lady’s comfortable victory over weak opposition.

“It was a good way to finish the camp in Pinzolo,” Alex continued. “Inter scored three against this side, so I’m hoping that when we play the Nerazzurri it will be 4-3!”

Meanwhile, out-of-favour midfielder Giuliano Giannichedda is reportedly close to sealing a move to Livorno.

The ex-Lazio man controversially stormed out of pre-season training after he wasn’t selected for Sunday’s match and is believed to have already agreed personal terms with the Labronici.

About the match vs china:

It went pretty well,” said Ranieri. “I am satisfied. We scored goals and moved the ball around well. Our opponents were faster and more agile, but that was mainly down to pre-season training schedules. It was great to see Del Piero score – he is football.”

When I see Ale playing like that very sad moments come out- like His Injury, His Age and what missed opportunities he has in life... but still THE GREATEST!!!

Scudetti, Champions League, every other Cup (Supercup, Intercontinental, Italian) and World Champion... Very impressive I think... But he could be Worlds #1 (officially as he is in our hearts #1) ;)

Ranieri isn't stupid. He knows that speaking about how great DP, Nedved and Buffon are, and talking about Juve's winners DNA, is exactly what the fans want to hear and so they will back him.
I have an interview with Ranieri on dvd from 2006 in which he praises DP as well ;)

I see your point, though, but I have no doubts that Ranieri is being sincere about how he regards Alex

if only that injury had not happened...but every1 has ups and downs in their careers and Ale is no different...and he has still achieved almost everything possible in professional football...his trophy cabinet will be complete by next summer though ;)
