Del Piero proud of record
Alessandro Del Piero admits he was proud to equal the record for Juventus' all-time leading scorer.
The Italy international grabbed the only goal during his side's 1-0 victory over Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday evening.
It was Del Piero's 179th strike for the Bianconeri and puts him level with Giampiero Boniperti in the Juventus hall of fame.
Del Piero, who has had his critics over the past couple of seasons, was honoured to be talked of in the same breath as Boniperti.
"Having drawn level with a player, who in Juve's history is probably the most decorated, is a reason for big pride for me," beamed Del Piero.
Juve's lacklustre success over Brugge secured the Italian giants' place in the next round of the Champions League, with Del Piero feeling the exertions of the 4-1 Serie A win over Roma played a part.
He added: "The fault for this not so sparkling performance is probably in the tiredness we had from Saturday.
"Then Brugge came here to close themselves in defence. It wasn't easy, we needed a lot of patience, but in the end we won."
