Del Piero signs Juve deal

Juventus have confirmed that captain Alessandro Del Piero has signed a new one-year contract with the club.

With a brief note posted on the outfit’s website, Juve have announced that the player has accepted fresh terms until 30 June 2012.

Del Piero met with Juventus President Andrea Agnelli at the club’s new stadium, which is presently being constructed ahead of next season, to put pen to paper this afternoon.

Reports around the peninsula last night suggested that an agreement had been reached after Stefano Del Piero, Alex’s brother, talked with director general Beppe Marotta.

Del Piero, born in November 1974, has been with the Turin giants since his 1993 switch from Serie B side Padova.

Alex’s previous contract was set to expire next month.

The player had often spoken in the past of his desire to play for the club in their new arena.

Financial details of the deal have yet to be made public, but it is believed that Del Piero has accepted a substantial cut from his present €4m a year salary.

why did it take so long?

Forza Capitano
Yeah, why they can't respect him like Giggs in the United, Maldini and the other veterans in Milan, Totti in Roma? They make him suffer till he sign the contract, and then say things that makes you feel like it's:"Ok, you won. But that's your last contract!".

Respect the guy FFS...Believe me, a lot of teams (and big teams) would love to have Ale in their squad.
