I see your point. I remember that game against Sweden, good performance there. He was critisized heavily after that France match though, and people forgot all about his performances in earlier stages. People tend to forget all the great things you do once you hit rock bottom, and that France match was devastating! I didn't talk to anybody for a couple of days after that match! I cried alot because of Alex
Not only Sweden. He played well vs. Holland too, in the semi-final.

Edit: After the match vs. France people burned shirts with "DEL PIERO" on the back in Piazzas across Italy. One of the worst days in Ale's career (and in my 'career' as football fan).

09.02.2011 MY DEAR DORTMUND

Our national team is playing against Germany in Dortmund tonight. The Westfalen Stadium (that apart from all has been called Signal Iduna Park since 2005) without any doubt is one of the stadiums that impressed me mostly and remained in my heart because of the unforgetable moments, two of them in particular. The 13th of September 1995, my first official time playing for Juventus and Juventus's debut in Champions League, the time I scored the first goal, that later was called 'Del Piero's style', in Europe. Unforgettable match and unforgettable goal, that triggered the process up to the winning the Cup at Olympic stadium in Rome against Ajax. And who would forget the 4th of July in 2006, the apotheosis of our World Championship.

Yes, because if you ask my team mates who shared with me that splendid adventure, a lot of them will tell you that the symbol match of our triumph was the one in Dortmund, (where Germany hadn't lost for 14 games). There I scored probably the most important game in my carrier, the 2-0 that wrapped up our match against German team and opened for us all the doors to Berlin.

Tonight Italy is coming back there, they'll be playing in front of incredible human wall of Borussia sector, but also in front of a lot of Italians among them, that still keep in their memories the undescribable joy of that night in 2006. Good luck, guys, take the pitch tonight and even if it will be only a friendly match, still, Forza Azzuri!

Alessandro

Vialli: Renewing Del Piero's contract is a great news. All you have to do is get into the stadium and hear the chants to know and figure out yourself what people think of this.
