I honestly wouldn't start Del Piero straight away. Di Natale to tire out the opposition's defense is probably a better idea. Del Piero could then come on and kill the game. I'd also be scared of putting too much pressure on the midfield with that formation.

@Dom: Pirlo and De Rossi have shown time and time again that they cannot co-exist.

Perhaps so, but who to drop then? De Rossi has been the best italian midfielder this season and Pirlo, although severly overplayed, is the team's axis.
If Pirlo is fit, Pirlo plays. It's that simple even if De Rossi has been the best Italian midfielder throughout the season.

Di Natale is fast but isn't that fast to tire the opposition IMO. He isn't as fast as Iaquinta.

We've seen the Di Natale - Toni partnership, I'm yet to see the Dp-Toni one.

At the moment I would field De Rossi before Pirlo . Pirlo is amazing but he just hasn't been the same this season , De Rossi is in much better form and I don't think there should even be a shadow of doubt that he deserves a place in the line-up .

It's more or less what he has done all season. Aquilani and Pizarro do not differ much from Pirlo as far as the type of player goes.
The two of them are more or less attacking midfielders and thus they don't interfere with De Rossi. Pirlo and De Rossi are both deeplying playmakers.

Aquilani and Pizarro are like Pirlo attacking midfielders, moved backwards to the role of deeplying playmakers. Players that pick up the ball from the defence and take it to the attackers. Trying to create gaps and holes, to make chances.

De Rossi is more what they call a 'metodista'. A defensive midfielder, not exactly with the vision of a playmaker, but someone who does play with his head up and can pick a pass out and brings structure into a team. A pretty common player in Serie A, but rare outside of it.

If De Rossi would let Pirlo do, what he lets Aquilani/Pizarro do, there would be little difference in De Rossi's role.

i know we all love seeing del piero play, but is it just me or should del piero be getting a rest at some point, it seems as if he is always starting and not getting subbed off, if he is going to the euro's like i hope, we don't want him getting burned out
