This is the first season I can remember in a long time where there are basically no expectations of us winning the Scudetto. Especially from the media.

With Motta and Giuntoli, it was always unlikely, but there was at least plenty of hype around Motta after his work at Bologna.

With Max, you’d go into the season expecting disappointment in the UCL but a strong league campaign.

With Pirlo, he lacked experience, but we still had CR7 and a stronger squad overall.

With Tudor, I genuinely haven't seen anyone suggest we have a shot at the Scudetto. I am curious to see if the players have a bit more freedom to express themselves without feeling crazy expectations and pressure. Just to be clear, I am expecting another 4th place finish personally. And if Napoli don't win the league, I expect Conte here next season.
I think it's so hard to say what to expect of this Juventus team. Most will have Juventus 3rd behind Napoli and Inter. Some will have Juve 4th behind Milan. I am a bit more optimistic. I think we will be 2nd in December.

Did anybody notice how high up the pitch Kelly was in the last few Friendlies? It is almost as if he is playing as a wing back.
Makes sense. We are putting up a high press. Kelly is a fast player.

The club world cup and working with largely the same group of players I think is a good thing. The team needs continuity in squad without revolution.

Last season when Motta took over, it was a complete shift in footballing philosophy from Allegri and Motta refused to integrate any players he didn't like. We started the season with barely a starting 11 with the squad to be based around players who were yet to arrive or just arrived (such as Koopmeiners, Luiz and Nico). It was a huge shake up which for many reasons didn't work out.

I feel we are having a better pre-season in terms of organization and preperation. We have a full squad (although there are many who need to leave to make way for new players). But I feel the team has more continuity from the previous season. So I am not expecting us to win the scudetto, but I am more cautiously optimistic.

Since he took over mid season, Juventus won 5, drawn 3 and lost 1 Serie A match and an average of 2 points per game. One would think with a proper pre-season working with a team that is not drastically different to what he inherited, you could expect a better performance in the league this year. At least thats what I hope.
We need between 2.2-2.3 ppg to be scudetto contedners again. 2.18 was enough in 2019/20 season

Yes I agree, however, I don't think anyone on this forum or pundits in general would put us a serious scudetto contenders unless we somehow manage to do some amazing things on the transfer market in the next 10 days.

Sure agreed. I think exceeding the 2 ppg barrier would be a considerable success with the current lineup.
Last four seasons:

1.89
1.87

Yep. My biggest worry this season is our defence. To be consistent in the league, you need a reliable rock solid defence and at the moment I am not convinced. I feel we need 1 high quality left footed defender because Gatti and Kalulu are OK for the right hand side and can share responsibilities in the middle. But Kelly and Cabal make me nervous - Kalulu and Gatti are significantly worse when played on the left had side of the back 3. If we resolved that issue, I will feel pretty confident we can achieve >2.0 points per game for the whole season. Lets not forget that Bremer and Cabal are coming off ACLs too.

Igor #Tudor to @SkySport:

"I haven't paid much attention to the mercato news that is circulating, because if you do, you will go crazy.
The fact that the mercato is open when the league starts, that is something that we have all commented on, it's not good and, unfortunately, it can't be changed.
There is little to say, it's crazy.
It is something that you have to accept, all coaches go crazy with this, they don't like it because it takes away some certainty and makes them feel insecure.
You are waiting.
And it takes you away from what is fundamental: focusing on your job.
The daily work with the players that you have at your disposal and who are present.
It is like this and you have to accept it, while hoping that it changes.
The normal thing would have been that the mercato ends at least one week before the league starts.
But no, instead, it starts with two weeks of mercato left.
On the mercato, whatever happens, happens.
Each coach wants to have the best possible players, sometimes it can happen and other times no.
We need to accept it, focusing on the pitch and what we have available"

They fucked him over after promising 3-4 players to strengthen the starting lineup. Doesnt surprise me. This club is shameless these days.
When and who promised him that? Anyway our mercato is possibly still moving with DL out now. Wait one more week to throw these out there.

Also Jonathan David, Conceicao and Joao Mario makes 3. Kolo likely a fourth.

conceição and kolo muani played here last season too. they aren't reinforcements, they are players the club might or might not manage to keep

and he's completely right about mentioning the uncertainty. he cannot plan with either of vlahovic and kolo muani, he only has one certain striker. that is far from ideal

I asked when and who promised? Waiting.

They are players that were bought so I count them. If anyone, including Tudor, expected us to buy 6-7 starters in total, he and everyone believing that is dumb as fuck and deserves exactly that.

don't ask me, i don't give a shit about that

neither chico or randy qualify as new players though. and randy isn't even here anymore/yet, i wouldn't mention him as a player that was bought
No idd, he looks very likely 'though and then they'll both be bought per definition. We also could've let them go and bought someone else which would mean 4 new players but change jack shit about the squad. If anything we need(ed) stability which is why Kolo and Chico are important imo.

Another RB hopefully but else I don't see anyone else coming without sales. Every other position has cover number wise. Quality is another thing ofc here and there. Tudor ain't the man to be making those demands at the moment however. He has a long way to go to prove he'll be here long term...
