Yes 2-2 was an odd result. And yes there is some prejudice towards italians in Denmark, especially after the Totti-Poulsen incident...

But it was not a fixed game between Sweden and Denmark. What I persionally think is closer to the truth, in this matter, is that italian football fans tend to blame someone else whenever their own team fail to meet their expectations. If they had gotten 3 points from their previous games, or had a Totti that wasn't acting like a child, then they would have gone through easily, and had been able to decide their own faith.

Denmark - Sweden.
One of the most repulsive games ever IMO. Don't give me that "it was coincidence" shit. Everyone in the stadium was rooting for 2-2 and Sorensen just happened to make a crucial mistake in the final few minutes right?

Italy - South Corea
I don't think anyone here, bar gray, still believes that South Corea wasn't somewhat sponsered by a higher power. For me as an Azzurri fan, this was the lowest football could get.

South Corea - Spain
Pretty much the same, but what was even more disturbing in this game was that we had already had the game versus Italy. While everyone was expecting a closely monitored and fair game, we got even more "human errors".

Just wanted to let it out Erkka :D.
I believe it was North Korea not south that beat Italy;)

Nah, natural favouring does wonders, just watch the games of the hosts in pretty much every single major tournament, Euros and World cups. I believe that if the Koreans really fixed those games, they would have got the bronze at least.
In a talk show in Al-Jazeerah Sport, a former FIFA ref said that there was recommendations or favoring from the highest echelons of FIFA for financial purposes.:fero:

What about what happened to Cruyff in 78? Its not much of match fixing but it was still corrupt.

Cruyff got a letter treatning his family's life if he were to fly to Argentina and play....

What about (4) for anyone who spells "Categorisation" instead of "Categorization":D
Another one of your mistakes. You might want to stop being so pedantic towards me ;).

The only notion in which I agree with Seven is the matches of World Cup 2002 in which South Korea really had the referees on their side...the match against Italy was certainly fishy and when the match against the Spaniards came around it was obvious something was up. Hell, even the match against the United States made me angry at the refs for favoring the home side. But to be honest, this sort of favoritism is to be expected.

We'll see how well South Korea can replicate their feat four years ago without claims of home side ref bias.

They are a capable squad. But just not that capable.

you think that was bad how would the ref feel when spain won the only thing they will ever win, in spain in front of general franco and his troops. now if ever a team was gonna win a trophy due to home advantage.........

It's no wonder of course that hosting countries often perform very well(not just in terms of eventual winners either, overall performance and placing), 'home advantage' extends beyond familiarity of setting and strong crowd support.

nah, let's forget these controversies at World Cups and other national tournaments, let's rather concentrate on doping cases and fixed games. As I wrote on the first post, how many of you even knew about the comments made my little Mazzola? Or howcome noone comment here about Peruzzi's recent talks about pills he took at roma?! People are sore because of Juve's own scandal or what?
