How Racist Is Your Country On A Scale on 1 to 10? (1 Viewer)

Ive had this discussion with quite a few of my mates & South Africa is basically a country of immigrants.

Racial groups are divided as such:


Whites: Europeans,North Americans & Australians/New Zealanders.(I know about the aborigenes too)

Blacks

Coloureds: Yes a group that particularly exclusive to South Africa,basically people of mixed race.

Asians: Indians,Pakistanis etc


Now if you come to South Africa we love to tell the rest of the world that we are a "rainbow nation" but all in all we are a racist bunch.Let an argument begin & havoc reigns supreme.

I wanna know whats its like in your parts so i know where to stay clear away from.

lot's of ethnicities. some bring back their cultural drama, some don't. usually the poor people tend to live in ethnocentric neighbourhood.

it's ironic because even though greeks and albanians are not supposed to get along, in toronto, a lot of them live in the same neighbourhood.

on a 1-10 scale, i say it's a 4

then again, all the provinces are different. ontario and british columbia are probably the 4's. alberta is the most like USA and quebec is more protective towards the french speaking people

Herein Lithuania we don't have a lot of black people or arabs, most of our immigrants are from eastern europe, Russia, Poland and such. As with any country there are groups of people who are very racist, but in general we aren't very racist nation. If i had to pick a number i would go with 3-4.

I think the Netherlands is easily the least racist country I've lived in. Make it 1 or 2 on your scale. The reason is pretty obvious, it's a well diversified country with many influences.

Norway is a bit higher up. Not a racist society generally, but there is some amount of animosity to those damn outsiders. Historically it's a ridiculously sparse country with very little communication across the vast territories. So there's no end to small towns in the middle of nowhere where people know little more than their immediate surroundings. Interestingly that's where the government likes to send people who have been granted asylum to integrate with the local community. Let's say 4.

I take the slightly wider meaning of racism, ie. hostility to other nationalities. A lot of countries don't have a lot of immigrants from other races but they do have them from nearby states.

A significant minority of Scots are not particularly tolerant of other peoples or cultures.

Some of the racism at the moment is pretty unpleasant, particularly towards the Poles.

I don't think people who are oppressors ever "learn from their mistakes". It takes something very different, namely being put in a situation where you can't control things. The colonization thing tends to have two outcomes. 1) You go wreak havoc in a remote place. 2) You get a steady stream of immigration from that faraway land. I don't think it's a coincidence that countries that have had the most immigration seem to be the least troubled by racism, because the average person has absorbed the "shock" decades ago and made peace with the whole thing.

probably the most provincial group to being made fun of is people of newfoundland, i live right on the border of quebec and ontario and the most i have heard of them being made fun of, is regarding their bad driving skills. there are various rules that allow provinces to "give preferential treatment" to their distinct "race" (for lack of a better word) and quebec is really the only one to take advantage of it.

for example, certain labels and signs need to be in both languages, in quebec it's illegal to have writing in english on a sign to be larger than in french. in ontario, for the most part they are the same size.

Very. I'd say 8. UP until relatively recently (mid 90s) there were practically no immigrants in Ireland. I think people are still getting over the shock that not everybody in Ireland is Irish .
