it's a case of misusing and even abusing religion for their own agenda
like it happens so many times
millions have died at the stake in the name of the Lord, terrorists get their virgins if they blow up and infidel and now women are murdered cuz they don't live by the Holy Book?
doesn't matter what religion you live by, all religions are destined to be abused by humans interpreting it for their own good

Religions that preach that a woman is the property of a man or who must obey the husband and similar stories protect these traditions.

That's why honor killings happen in cultures where the religion promotes male dominance and they don't happen anywhere else.

My parents hometown in Pakistan hasn't had a single 'honor' killing in its entire history and it's 99% Muslim, how do you explain that?

Yeah, basically vendetta. It's still related to honor in their minds so technically it's too an honor killing.

You are right. That is called also an honour killing for the honour of the tribe, but the author was meaning crimes resulting from the behavior of the female victim.

Just a quick note, some kill their sisters/wives for purposes such that of gaining money out of it then blaming the victim of having an affair so as to get the minimum legal sentence. It was investigated here many times actually along with other countries as I've heard.
