You know, I had the exact same idea today.. Posting a Ramadan thread.. I don't remember why I didn't go through with it though..

yea it starts on wednesday here in the US too. And those iftaars are awsome. All the best food is cooked during this moth, atleast at my place. But too bad I live at college now :down:

As a non-Muslim American (do they have a word for non-Muslims, like "gentiles" in Judaism?), it's sad that I have to learn about when Ramadhan starts from this forum and not the media, general public discourse, etc. Many of us learn when Yom Kippur is, but it's pretty stunning how ignorant this country is about one of the world's, and the country's, major religions.

All I can say is I want my "Allah bless America" bumper sticker...

haha, me too! i want one with "Allah Loves U!" But yea its kinda sad that they don't. I know they have it on Canadian channels. Its sad 'cause an "islamic" terrorist will make the front page, but something like ramadhan or eid, won't. But what can u do :down:

not that i wana get into religious arguments,but the perception of a non-muslim towards a muslim these days is very wrong.it starts on terrorism,and ends on terrorism,and that is as sad as it is wrong.

Which is precisely why I love the deep complexities raised with an All-American bumper sticker that says, "Allah bless America" with a waving American flag on it. It forces people to face their stereotypes.

On the one hand, you get a very patriotic-sounding message that American Joe Public cannot sanely raise issues against. But on the other hand, it forces a recognition of diversity in this country -- the core of what "liberty and justice for all" means -- that runs counter to the terrorist stereotypes and the safe confines of white Anglo-Christiandom.

It will split many people's minds in half, which is why I love the concept.

But Axl, do note that you seem to be making generalizations about non-Muslims here as much as other non-Muslims might make of Muslims.

i only have to say one thing we are being over 'infested' with muslims here in malta immigrant are flowing in we have become overpopulated with them we have immigrants everywhere but does muslim religion effect goverment and how things work in the country i cant understand why all the immigrant in europe ;S

It's the same story of why everybody immigrates. Things back home for them probably suck for economic opportunities and/or cultural freedoms.

That's because malta and countries around are well to do. And it doesn't have anything to do with their religion because the majority keep and practice their religion after leaving their own countries. There are exceptions, such as immigrants from Iran, who are opressed to the limit they leave the religion.

Despite being a non Muslim myself having lots of Muslim friends does allow me to practise it to a certain extent.When they're fasting I'm forced to do the same.
