The Handball European Championships '04 started today.

As a swede I'm hoping that Sweden will win but somehow I don't think so. Maybe it has something to do with how bad they played in WC '03 but they are defending champions.

The teams that might win is Germany, France, Croatia, Russia, Spain. I hold Denmark as an outsider.

pardon my ignorance but I'm a bit confused, is handball similar to Malaysia's bola baling? its basically just passing the ball around and scoring it at the goal net (something like instead of FOOTball, its HANDball)

Is this like Jeopardy where you get the answer and then have to ask the question to get it right....OK OK let me try....

    Answer: HANDBALL

Question: hmmmm "What sport does Ciro Ferrara play while everyone around him is playing football??"

You're right, I dont think Sweden can do it either. They have to rejuvenate their team, the mighty generation that was the biggest force in world handball inthe last decade is too old now.

IMO Croatia are going to take it, but I see Holland as a major thread in the future.

Sweden won the youth world championship last year so I think the national team will get better but they won't win this year.

Russia's 42-year old goalie was a nightmare for the swede in the game.
And for Croatia; we'll see tomorrow how it goes....

Lavrov didn't make any spectacular saves. It was actually the swedes who was shooting straight at him. He didn't even have to move.
If our young players didn't have all those nerves we could have won yesterday.
