    Report: Russia frees Hiddink

    Wednesday 13 January, 2010

The Russian National Football Academy has apparently revealed it will no longer pay Guus Hiddink a wage from this month onwards, allowing him to join Juventus.

Hiddink has been strongly linked with the Bianconeri over the last two months, as things have got progressively worse under Ciro Ferrara.

Juventus are out of contention for the Scudetto and were knocked out of the Champions League group stages in December after a 4-1 home defeat to Bayern Munich.

Roberto Bettega, the Bianconeri's vice-general manager, is believed to have opened discussions with Hiddink despite the denials of his agent.

However, speculation has increased after Il Corriere dello Sport got win of a statement from Sergey Kapkov, the President of the Russian National Football Academy, to the effect that Hiddink will no longer be on the pay roll in Moscow.

The news was first reported on Monday after Vitaly Mutko, the President of the Russian Football Association, intimated that Hiddink would be allowed to continue his duties as manager of the Russian national team along side a club job as long as he doesn't take a wage for the duration he is away from Moscow.
