If this Top Kill does not work, then the only solution is building the relief wells which will take months to complete.

If this Top Kill does not work AND causes more damage to the well head (which looks like the case right now to the un-trained eye), then everyone is going to shovel even more shit towards BP's way.

Folks, you can't have it both ways. Everybody was urging them to try and stop the gusher NOW instead of waiting for the relief wells, which is fine. But if this causes the flow rate to worsen then you will just have to accept that as a casualty of the whole "have to do something regardless of consequence" mindset. Just like Keynesian economics, Monday-morning engineering quarterbacktry [sic] usually ends up causing more damage.

At this point, there will already be significant damage to the Gulf Coast ecosystem and economy, so the difference between fixing it now or waiting a week to make sure the solution will actually solve the problem isn't huge.

However, if this doesn't work and the timetable is pushed back for months we can most likely expect to see one of the most rapid marine ecosystem kills of all time. Not to mention the economic ramifications.

Maybe that one guy was right and we should just drop a bomb down the well. There are no guarantees the relief wells will work either.

Even heard about the nuclear option. Not sure if a Gulf contaminated with radiation would be a good thing, but neither is heavy crude swimming about.

If this Top Kill really failed, expect to see BP open down 20% on Tuesday. They'd be all but finished. I should have bought some put options today but they are not my forte.

The current value of our stock market is factoring in a GDP increase of about 5% each year for the next five years. That is obviously a joke evaluation, and when the reality sets in that over 10% of our economy will be wiped away by this gusher, watch the fuck out. We're going to see far, far below the SPX March 09 low of 666.

Top Kill has failed. This will leak for at least another three months. It might leak for more if the relief wells are not built on schedule.

Obama says he's enraged the kill failed, even though it's admitted that it was not likely to succeed.

"Daddy, did you plug the hole yet?" :flirt:

They should put Sarah Palin's big mouth around the leak to plug it up.

    Spill, baby, spill...

It also makes me a little pissed off at all the people who freaked out over nuclear energy decades ago. Basically keeping the gates open for such "lesser" environmental disasters like this.

Yeah. But a disaster like this does not happen very often either.

And I'd like to see people agree to buying Hummer-sized K-19's to drive around in...

A dire report prepared for President Medvedev by Russia’s Ministry of Natural Resources is warning today that the British Petroleum (BP) oil and gas leak in the Gulf of Mexico is about to become the worst environmental catastrophe in all of human history threatening the entire eastern half of the North American continent with “total destruction”.

Russian scientists are basing their apocalyptic destruction assessment due to BP’s use of millions of gallons of the chemical dispersal agent known as Corexit 9500 which is being pumped directly into the leak of this wellhead over a mile under the Gulf of Mexico waters and designed, this report says, to keep hidden from the American public the full, and tragic, extent of this leak that is now estimated to be over 2.9 million gallons a day.

The dispersal agent Corexit 9500 is a solvent originally developed by Exxon and now manufactured by the Nalco Holding Company of Naperville, Illinois that is four times more toxic than oil (oil is toxic at 11 ppm (parts per million), Corexit 9500 at only 2.61ppm). In a report written by Anita George-Ares and James R. Clark for Exxon Biomedical Sciences, Inc. titled “Acute Aquatic Toxicity of Three Corexit Products: An Overview” Corexit 9500 was found to be one of the most toxic dispersal agents ever developed. Even worse, according to this report, with higher water temperatures, like those now occurring in the Gulf of Mexico, its toxicity grows.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in discovering BP’s use of this dangerous dispersal agent ordered BP to stop using it, but BP refused stating that their only alternative to Corexit 9500 was an even more dangerous dispersal agent known as Sea Brat 4.

The main differences between Corexit 9500 and Sea Brat 4 lie in how long these dangerous chemicals take to degrade into their constituent organic compounds, which for Corexit 9500 is 28 days. Sea Brat 4, on the other hand, degrades into an organic chemical called Nonylphenol that is toxic to aquatic life and can persist in the environment for years.

If Bush was still in office, we'd be living under a Fascist dictatorship.

But this POTUS can't fix shit. He's too busy paying off banksters and predicting the next March Madness.

If Bush was in office, Halliburton would have signed another $40 billion contract to clean up the spill they created by now.

That sounds familiar. I wonder what that was. Hmmmm, drawing a massive blank.

Did it have something to do with setting up a pool table?

BP's corporate, personal ties to White House emerge

    NEW YORK TIMES
by Helene Cooper and John M. Broder
    05/30/2010

WASHINGTON — Three years ago, the national laboratory then headed by Steven Chu received the bulk of a $500 million grant from the British oil giant BP to develop alternative energy sources through a new Energy Biosciences Institute.

Today, Chu is President Barack Obama's energy secretary, and he spent Tuesday in Houston working with BP officials . . .

I also read in Time that Cheney weakened drilling regulations to exclude remote-shut-off switches on rigs. That might have prevented the blowout.

See? Same group of criminals in both parties running the show in Washington.

Bah, Washington? Like we spend taxpayer money researching deep sea exploded offshore rig rescue. The government's only role in this is regulation and certification and holding companies accountable. When crap like this happens, they have to turn to the oil companies to figure it out -- it's their business.

But I did call Jerry Bruckheimer to see what he said. He suggests sending in a team of Steve Buscemi, Bruce Willis, and Owen Wilson to blow it up with a nuclear warhead.

Nuclear warheads are like WD-40 or duct tape: they fix everything. :pado:
