    Best advice I can give:

Once your comfortable with your fingers, picking, strumming and understanding of a couple fundamental scales (blues, pentatonic etc) record a basic power chord rhythm for about 2 mins just repeating it. Then play the rhythm guitar through your speakers, blast your guitar high, and just improvise on a good sounding scale for your rhythm and then just let the little flicks, melodies, riffs come out of your on-the-spot creative mind. That's pretty much my favourite aspect of the guitar - improving with scales.

check out: www.looknohands.com for loads of guitar scales and chords. BTW, try learning some really absurd and random chords and use them when you compose anything. First off, it looks sooo much more complex, cooler than the boring powerchord, and lot of times they sound very original (which is very important when you play the guitar since approx 80% of musicians know how to play the guitar some degree IMO).

    Good luck!

Oh Dan; I've fallen in love with this new song from a Dutch band called Racoon (they're actually from Middelburg :touched: ). They sing in English though, don't worry :D

Anyway, their guitar work is always great through simplicity. You should give it a try if you like it!

The song is called Love you more and you can listen to the song via my webspace, here!

You can get the tabs here!

I'd recommend learning to play by sound as early on as you can. Obviously you need to know what you're doing to learn first, but keep messing and figuring songs out by sound. If you develop it you will be able to play anything (depending on how good you are:D) after listening to a few times and attempting it a few times.

I learnt this song just now Erik, it sounds pretty good actually on acoustic without some dude singing :D Gimme some more I'm bored.

Dammit I was gonna play this stuff to girls and pretend I wrote it.

Na kidding, I've never did that. I just find out what band they like and play that stuff :D

If she isn't around, like now, she dosen't mind if I pull some girls. As long as I wasn't continually seeing someone or pulled a chick when she was here. If I do that then I'm fvcked, and that's literal because she can beat me up.

Though I usually don't, but if it's a hottie and i'm horny then.. But yeah we are young, might aswell have some fun.

Aahh very good philosophy. I've seen it work for couples where one of them went abroad for 6 months. Always the coules who gave each other more freedom pulled through those months, the couples who didn't all broke up.

Dan, if I were in your position, I would probably try to learn some Beatles songs, like "Day Tripper", "I Feel Fine", or something. They're really easy, and you'll get the basic idea of maneouvering around the guitar (but not Satriani-maneouvering). I took guitar lessons for a while (4 years), and that taught me nothing but theory and some Joe Satriani/Steve Vai songs. Sure theory is crucial, and you need to know your scales to solo and such, but it's important that you teach yourself as well. Learn to play by ear and you'll start developing a perfect pitch.
