chiellini has pretty much made the switch to being a permanent CB, his qualities suit
a CB role much more
You mean like he is not fast enough for a LB,
he cannot make some decent crosses, or runs with the ball?
He can even dribble and hold the ball a little longer than most of the defenders out there.
He was quite good LB and the only thing that moved him to the center was our needs.
If we bring Mellberg and Ujfalusi, it wouldnt hurt to bring him back to the LB position.
Chiellini is tall and strong but that doesnt mean he is slow, he was pretty fast back in his LB days, he is a complete defender than can cover any place in the defense.
The only defect that i see, is that sometimes he is just a bit more violent than he should and he makes some sloppy fouls. Thats why i would prefer him to be outside our box.

Zebina Mellberg Andrade Chiellini

is, overall, the strongest defense we can have atm, with the current material.
Almost CL material, every single position of it!! No weak players like Molinaro, that our opponents would take advantage of and a good LB to back up Giovinco's lack of defensive skills when Neddy wont be a starter.
Molinaro must leave, De Ceglie can be a better back up than him and if we dont get a Grosso like starter, then i would opt for Chiellini as an LB again!

It's not that he is a bad LB. It's that he's excellent at CB.

I am far from being a sentimental Azzurri fan but I think Grosso is a good addition to our squad.
he would be a good addition in the sense that he's an upgrade over Molinaro nothing more. IMO he wouldnt start for most big teams.

I'd give Grosso more credit than that. Sure he's not of the best players in the world, even in his position but he's a solid player who we could rely on & would add a sense of security in a backline needing it so much.

he started for the biggest team there is, the azzurri... and look what he did! If a great manager like Lippi believes he has what it takes, then he doesnt need to prove himself to any doubters.
