Juve to go for Grosso? Tuesday 1 April, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus are reportedly lining up a summer swoop for Lyon’s Azzurri defender Fabio Grosso.

The Old Lady are set to strengthen their squad at the end of the campaign in preparation for a Scudetto push and Champions League football next term.

While Juve’s squad boasts a catalogue of stars, they are still a little short of defensive options.

In recent weeks, Reggina’s Francesco Modesto, Catania star Juan Vargas and Andrea Dossena of Parma have been lined up as potential acquisitions for the role of wing-back.

But Grosso is the new name in the frame and La Gazzetta dello Sport insists that the Turin giants could secure the 30-year-old for noticeably less than the £4m Lyon paid Inter last summer.

The World Cup winner has failed to settle in Ligue 1 and has been harshly criticised by the French Press this term.

However, despite his domestic struggles, Fabio remains in the frame for a place at Euro 2008.

Grosso has reportedly stated his desire to return to his homeland as soon as possible and Lyon are unlikely to prevent his exit.

Juve and Lyon are on good terms after Jean-Alain Boumsong moved from the Cadetti champions to the Stade Gerland at the end of January.

While Vargas is of proven quality as I have seen his matches with Catania and the number of forummers rooting him to be our preferred LB.

De Ceglie's strength seems to be his flexibility playing as LB and LM.

I hoped we have room for both of them next season. :flag2:

That's more like it, but international experience and european when we're at it , is no merit on how certain players will perform playing for Juventus. One more thing, you can't really compare Vargas and Grosso...

I agree about international experience.

How can you not compare Grosso and Vargas? They are both LBs that we are supposedly looking at, so surely they must be compared.

I want Grosso.

I meant compare their level of experience generally speaking... one is a star on a rise , the other.... I think is past his prime.

I want Vargas.
