Green Day is one of the greatest alternative bands out there. But all their new stuff is crap. "Dookie" (released in 1994) was the best, with

Basket Case
When I come around
Burnout
etc.

Damn. I can't believe it was ten years ago!

well, they're the one's who started commercialising "punk" and brought punk into MTV and mainstream acceptance on a wide scale... But i still remember when "Dookie" first came to my country; the record label put the sticker "This is Alternative!" on the box.. Haha... Record labels DO have a sense of humour...

Unless you're name is The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, The Clash, NOFX, Dead Kennedy's, The Misfits, or Bad Religion, then you shouldn't call youself a Punk Band.

To me, the most "Punk" thing that Green Day ever did was "Good Riddance (Time of your Life)", because that was totally against the grain.

They're a good band, though.

:thumb: Full agree here! Saying that Green Day is punk is just funny, they don't really know anything about punk... Alternative rock is good expression, they should use that...

I meant the way they dress. They dress like a bunch of punks. Here they have always been considered a punk rock band.

Back when they released the albums 39/Smooth and Kerplunk in the early 90's they were considered a punk band.

yeah, exactly... And I'm pretty worried about NOFX too, American Errorist isn't that good, it even sounds like Green Day in some points... :scared:
And Elnur is right, Dookie is their best album...

before Green Day went to a major label, they were recognised as a punk band.... For that matter, so was Offspring (when they were still on Epitaph Records)...

The earlier Green Day records (before Dookie) were on indie label Lookout Records.. Lookout Records' owner made millions selling off Green Day (and their back catalogues) to the majors...

They were punk, at one point..... Then they sold-out.......

How did they sell out? Thats silly. You want them to stay underground and no sign a record contract? By that thinking then Nirvana, Guns N Roses, Led Zep heck even Lynyrd Skynyrd all sold out? :D

I didnt like Greendays old stuff, they were to much of a skate band and made too much kids music. Warning was a better album, this one is musically their best work yet
