I would take that view on something slightly more minor.

Schumacher's assault was just so outlandish that I find it amusing.

In my book, the real villian of the piece was the ref.

To be fair I've seen worse than that. Horrendous as it was I've still seen worse.

Battiston, clattered, fell to the ground unconscious, with damaged vertebrae and teeth knocked out, later slipping into a coma. Emergency medics had to administer oxygen on the pitch. Michel Platini later said that he thought that Battiston was dead, because "he had no pulse and looked pale".

He must have recovered reasonably given that he won the Euro's with France in 1984 and played in the 1986 World Cup.

That was a wonderful French team.

As far as I can tell, that French team was just about the last international side my dad actually speaks highly of.
