I don't see the parallels with Wave. Wave was a solution in search of a problem. Plus at least had some demand and theoretical usefulness.

They are two totally different services, when Wave was made to replace the email/blogging/foruming, Google+ was made to replace Facebook/Twitter. That's where I see them fail. If Google wants to create something, they have to create something that will find a place in the market not replace another monster.

What more integration do you want? I thought that Android might be a key for G+ to succeed but at the same time Facebook has ALL platforms users hugging it.

I don't know a lot of people begging for email to go away with a Google replacement. I did for FB.

its just getting started though, checking in with Gogle maps, instant uploading of photos, etc the possibilities for Google to make a social networking interface that sincs to seemlessly with Android that it would seem silly to use anything else.

yes it will be hard to wean people off of the SN crack that is Facebook, but when your phone does everything instantly who the hell will want to log into a fractured, broken app that is a pale imitation of what you use on the pc

I am on G+ daily and I am trying hard to be active and get involved with posts but the lack of interest is too big to make it launch. I don't mind FB and I wanted something different with G+ but so far they didn't offer anything different than FB except much less interested people.

I don't know about you but on FB I interact with people I see daily, with family, friends, friends I haven't seen for a while, companies, organizations, groups, you name it...all these are not on G+ and I know the users on FB, more than 80% won't be bothered to just change an interface because the majority cannot see any difference but in the looks. That's the reality of the internet and most of its users.

Then again, it is not Google's fault that the FB app is crippled and I see that as a disadvantage for the regular Android user. For example, I have colleagues that have Androids and keep on complaining about the FB app when they hear the other colleagues praising the iPhone Facebook app. Do you think those complaining would rather start using G+ or wait until their contracts are over and get an iPhone instead? I see most going for a phone because most of their contacts are still on FB and not bothered to move to an empty lounge.

I don't use FB much. I go a long time without logging in, and I have hundreds of friends there. (And I don't mean "a long time" = 6 hours like some people, I mean 3 months without logging in.)

TBH, that's just too much freaking info and updates. So far, I like G+ because it's not overload.

And FB users like you are very very rare, the majority are there daily and when I say daily, I mean logged on almost all the time. I have for example a tab with FB on it as long as I am sitting by the computer. When I am not by a computer, the first thing I do when I get an opportunity is open FB on my Android. And I am not the only one who does that, most FB users are like that and that's why I am predicting G+ to have a sad ending.

A few times I tried to promote G+ on FB, most of the comments I got were:

- what's wrong with FB?
- Are Google paying you to promote them?
- what would I gain from joining G+

Not to forget one big factor, people can register on FB with ANY email, on G+ you need a gmail and not everyone has a gmail where everyone has an email.

There were times that everytime I pulled out my phone I'd go to FB first. But I honestly took a step back and questioned "why?". Turns out at least for me, it wasn't really adding that much value in life and I instead paid closer to attention to what was going on around me, the people around me, etc. I even think I recovered some time in my day, every day, because of that.

Sometimes when you're a tourist you have to put the camera down to experience life without a lens in your face. The same thing happens with FB use, IMO.

I like it but can't help but feel it will indeed be futile. 99% of people probably won't be bothered to start things all over again. Facebook has become a synonym for social networking, much like Google for searching, or Windows for OS, Apple for obnoxious, etc.

When I totally agree with you, I don't find myself ready for this step. I actually enjoy what I do there and I know how time wasting it is.

I think Facebook integration in the Android is pretty awesome actually. I can go to my contacts and call anyone I'm friends with in Facebook without having to actually ask them for their number or email address. The FB app is pretty nice too, does its job and it's simple.

You make it sound like nobody ever said that about MySpace just a few years ago. :shifty:

Or AltaVista for search a few years before that.
