He simply doesent have the characteristics of a modern wc forward, other than finishing. Hes not quick, fast, strong in the air, not a dribbling monster either. Dybala isnt a physical presence either, but he more than makes up for it with his technique. Pair him with a LW/CF Hybrid like Mario/Alvaro/Martial, and he should show his potential
Basically said this in another thread.

All he's good for in these games is poaching... except he's not particularly lethal at that either. He done great against spurs, which is his level.

Useless in these games. Can't get past his man, never ever converts crosses and really all you have to do is keep close to him and all he's capable of is running back towards goal and switching play (at best)

He's not even half as good as he needs to be to warrant us playing with archaic, shit 2 man strike formations that are dead in Europe.

So all of a sudden our top scorer in the CL is the problem again :sergio:

Why is there a constant need to look for a scapegoat after a loss?
I agree

The management just wont see the way like fans here do

As long as he's consistently scoring goals regardless of whether he chokes in big games or not, he will be our starting CF for the foreseeable future

Jesus Christ. I've never been a fan of Higuain, but his performance in the CL this season was nothing short of fantastic. And he's clearly gotten into shape as the season has gone on. He didn't have the greatest of matches today, but he was part of a great team effort to turn the tie around. And no, Dybala as the 9 today wouldn't have guaranteed some different/better outcome, even if I'd love to see Dybala played there at some point.

The problem is no matter who is on the field, as long as we are in a 4-3-3, we look better. So you have to sacrifice Higuain or Dybala for the good of the team. Since Higuain does nothing better than Dybala in terms of being a target man, I would pick Dybala.

This is a confusing topic tbh. I love Higuain, he's a great goalscorer and he plays for the team, but there's days like this and some games where I wish we played with an attack of Douglas-Dybala-Bernardeschi, with all of them moving all over the field. But then again you can't bench your most expensive signing, and I doubt we'll sell him this summer. And I also don't know if I want us to sell him either, because he's crucial in some games, but some of you make good arguments as to why we should, while others make good arguments as to why we shouldn't. Difficult topic to discuss, especially after yesterdays game.

Yes. Play with Dybala who has a worse first touch than 12 year old kid.

it worked well in season 15/16 and Paolo surely has improved since then
What? In 15/16 Dybala played alongside Mandzukic who was the No 9 in 3-5-2 and 4-3-1-2.

He has almost never played as the No 9 in a 4-3-3 for us. Doesn't mean he can't. He did in Argentina years ago and looked very good. He clearly struggles creating chances for us as a CAM, and is much more of a goalscorer and finisher than an assister (generally looks to shoot first anytime he is near the box). So I'd like to see him get some games as a 9, rotate with Higgy, see what he can do. But it's not like he has experience in the position while at Juve.

Impeoved how? He has been world class in one CL game (3-0 last year against Barcelona), but rather mediocre in the other games. I’m not saying he isn’t good, but other players, on this team, are criticized a lot more for a lot less. It’s Tuz in a nutshell.

Mandžukič is a different kind of 9 to Higuain though and yesterday he played a very similar role to the one he had when playing in a front 2 together with Dybala. if the LW in our 433 is a striker like Mario or Martial, they can be the attacking outlet receiving the long passes and I don't see why Dybala couldn't be the focal point finishing off the attack, he already was in 15/16 when Mario had more of a supportive role and Dybala's grown since then

He's banging in a lot more goals than he used to.
