Higuain-Juventus transfer historic
By Football Italia staff

With the €94.7m Napoli release clause, Juventus are about to make Gonzalo Higuain the second biggest transfer in history.

Multiple reports today stated that Higuain underwent a medical in Madrid on Friday and Juve have alerted Napoli to the imminent activation of the release clause in his contract.

Pipita is also believed to have signed a four-year contract worth €7.5m per season plus bonuses and the return of his image rights.

This will make Higuain the biggest ever signing for a Serie A club, the most expensive Juventus player of all time and the second costliest transfer in history.

He is currently second only to Gareth Bale, who joined Real Madrid for €100m in the summer of 2013.

Real Madrid again paid €94m to take Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United in July 2009, while Barcelona got Neymar from Santos for €86m in 2013 (although some consider this as high as €105m depending on bonuses).

Higuain will be by far the most expensive transfer in Juventus history, as their previous top expenditure was €53m for Gianluigi Buffon from Parma in 2001.

The most expensive buy in Serie A was Hernan Crespo, as Lazio spent €55m to bring him in from Parma in 2000.

Naturally, this could be dwarfed by Paul Pogba if Juve sell him to Manchester United or Real Madrid for €120m.
