Obviously it wasn't. Do you think Juve payed 40M+ out of the kindness of their heart or something?
We payed that ludicrous fee because we were desperate. And it's not like we sold De Ligt for the amount we initially demanded. Why is that we are always ready to overspend but bend over and sell at a cut price whenever we offload our stars?

Welcome. Have a successful career here.
It's not that hard. You're competing against bumnuci, rugano and a bricklayer who may or may not be a revelation next season, ffs.

No one was willing to pay 100M for a CB? Thats crazy!

Btw, since were including add-ons, selling De Ligt to Bayern still goes down as one of the five most expensive transfers of all time for a CB. Juve did fine, sorry it doesn't fit your narrative of incompetence?

Overbidding Torino by 17m is a bit too much tho
Maybe they really liked the youngster from Inter. Only people who know are the people in that negotiations. Or maybe their bonuses were easier to achieve than our bonuses, so we added harder to accomplish bonuses at the cost of a little more guaranteed upfront pay.

It seems like a crazy jump in price but there are definitely other things at play that 99.999% of people observing the transfer will never know.

Im pretty sure at one point people were trying to make an argument he was better than De Ligt
Well he was. If you remember correctly, before his acl in Rome, demiral was actually starting ahead of de ligt.
Even in that March demiral partnered Chiello /bonbon, not de ligt.
Demiral was also starting his second game in a row after a mid-week match at Leverkusen which we won, if I remember correctly.

Demiral started because De Ligt wasn't fit. Thats how I remember it at least.
