Melo 25, Diego 25, Amauri 22, Bonucci 15 ... And I don't remember many here (except Vincent and a few others) thought we overpaid for them. So one good season as a DM in Fiorentina, a couple of good seasons at Bundesliga, a few slightly above average seasons as a forward with Chievo and Palermo and one average/good season at Bari for a nobody like Bonucci justify that crazy money we paid for them but a 25-30m price tag for Rossi is, all of a sudden, an inflated figure. IMO, every player's "fair" price is the price their clubs ask for. It's then only on the buyer who decide whether to pay it or not. Only because we shouldn't pay 30m for Rossi doesn't mean he is overpriced.
K.ale! Your analogy is way off. Just because we paid those amounts for those players doesn't mean Rossi's price tag is justified. Melo was not justified at 25m but we paid his buyout clause. It was not his value. We overpaid for Bonnucci. Too. I don't think too many people here feel like those prices were justified. Just because we've made the mistake before, doesn't mean we need to make it again. You have to contextualise the factors behind why we think or say he's overpriced in terms of the value he's bringing our team. 30m, even in these times of ManCity is a lot of money. And must therefore be spend on a player who is capable of being a reference point for the team. Unfortunately, Rossi is nothing more than a good complementary player. And that's not something we need to jump from seventh to third or second or first place. I don't think Aguero is worth 45m, but I know in terms of value he will bring more to this team, on and of the pitch, and from the two is more likely to pay for his own signing.

The only reason Rossi doesn't want to move to Juve and would prefer Villareal is, not the champions league but the fact that he may not want the burden of being the go to guy in a big team. No guy in his right mind would, especially Italian would reject playing for the biggest club in italy under any circumstances. That too when he's at a mid table club in another country. If this is really the case, might say a lot for his temperament.
It wasn't even an analogy, I'm just saying how people are illogically biased against Rossi as I don't remember the same people believing that we overpaid for the likes of Amauri, Diego, Melo and Bonucci.
Paying 30m for Rossi at the moment is too much and I'm against it. That money must be spent somewhere else. But it's funny to see that you rate him (max) at 22m while you are criticizing Marotta for not paying ATM asking price for Aguero. The "he will bring us more", "he will be Del Piero's heir", "we will get that money back soon", etc are just speculations. I won't take such a big risk.

Maybe I speak for myself here, but I don't think anyone here thought we struck a bargain on any of those players you mention. Although I personally felt like Diego was worth the money at the time. But if you remember, even though he struggled on the pitch, he sold a lot of jerseys. I feel Aguero has the right team around him to succeed and would have a similar marketing effect based on the hype alone.

If AtM ask for 45 and we offer 32m plus Tiago, I think it's retarded especially since as fans Marrotta has led us to believe Aguero was our primary objective. It's fair to say, that the offer needed to be more serious. I stand by that. Yes, Aguero is a risk, but at 30m, Rossi doesn't bring any guarantees either if you know what I mean. And based on that, I'm willing to gamble the extra 10m-15m in a season when we've got a new stadium, and high expectations off the team after two dismal seasons. Along with the fact that we're going to be losing a pillar of the last 20 years. Look at it in terms of overall value and not just skill alone, and maybe you'll see what I'm trying to say. We're spending big in both cases, might as well go for what has potentially the bigger payout.

You can check my previous posts, I've said that we overpaid for every single name you mentioned there ( except Diego) who I thought he's price wasn't a bargain like many suggested but it was a fair price.
Alex ferguson has an option to buy back Rossi for the same price that villareal actually paid for him ( around 13 millions) but he didn't ! Wouldn't you think someone who's brilliant at discovering talents like ferguson would jump into such an opportunity but he didn't ! I guess our guys are smarter than him...
