This guy actually spent the same amount of money on Vidal, Barzagli and Pirlo combined as he did on Martinez alone.

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
Weird isn't it?

His best work for this club would be to have Conte pinpoint the guys he wants, and then attempt to go and get them. Also, to sign young players to bring up through the system. The latter, he has shown promise. The former, that is yet to be seen. Not to sound like a broken record, but this summer mercato will truly prove whether or not he is up for the task.

His first year was hit and miss, although he did bring important pieces such as Barzagli, Bonucci, Storari, Pepe, Matri, and Quag. Martinez is simply a disaster, which is too bad, because I thought he was a good player.

This year, there was a step up in quality relative to what the goals of the club were, which were to reach the champions league (Mission Accomplished), and to contend for the Scudetto (So Far, So good). Lichsteiner, vucinic, Vidal, Pirlo, Caceres. Still a couple of head scratchers though, such as Elia, Padoin, Young Hitler.

But there was a definite improvement this year, and the good far outweighs the bad in that regard.

We will see what happens this summer. Still cautiosuly optimistic about what he can do, but the key word is "Cautiously"

I have a hard time believing that anyone thought the Pirlo and Barzagli transfers would turn out this good. If they did, Milan and Wolfsburg would have kept them/asked for more money. I'm not known to give Marotta credit but dude straight up delivered with those two. But if he was lucky or not is another question.

The Vidal signing was quality from the beginning, dude was even more important for Leverkusen than he is for us.

I think that with Pirlo, a lot of us (myself included) thought that he still had something left in the tank, and a lot to prove. Barzagli, well, if anyone thought back then that he would have not only regained his Palermo form from years back, but to also develop into a class CB, they are fooling themselves.

Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.

Like sergio said, this summer will prove if Marotta is the real deal or not, can't give him much credit for this season.

He does deserve some though. Especially in the department of acquiring young talent for the future.

I've heard it all.
I think that it is a question of people not wanting to give him credit.

You can listen to the general populace of this thread, or you can heed the words of tacchinardi, who said just a few days ago that Marotta and Agnelli know what they are doing, while their predecessors didn't.

Also, you're not really hearing any of the experts so far this season downplay every single move he has made recently.

You can't make everyone happy, I suppose.

The thing is, Marotta is hated on this forum. We can win the Scudetto, and people will still stay oh that was Conte's achievement, Marotta didn't have anything to do with it. I understand giving credit to the coach, of course he deserves the outmost credit. But so does the GM.. Not as much as Conte (if we win the title) but I haven't heard anything more ridiculous than "Marotta doesn't deserve much credit for this season".

Last season was an utter disaster, but Marotta deserved every bit of criticism he received. I think people haven't forgiven him for letting Trez and Camo go on... Umm.. Weird circumstances.

Last year Tacchinardi said Marotta isn't Juve material, and this season he has been full of praise and says Marotta and Agnelli understands Juve.
