Well, this mercato is full of disappointments to be honest even if reason speaks at the players links it should be understood that the targets were never to arrive. However, with the early disappointments by the end of July, the movements looked promising with Vucinic and Vidal arriving. With these two and the unnecessary loans that got signed, it looked like 4-3-3 is our best bet looking at the nature of midfielders we had and the number of forwards. By the end of August we also heard Agnello and Marotta promising again lots of things in August, just like they did in the beginning and failing. One would think they won't lie twice in the span of two months but they did. Giaccherini, Estegarribia and Elia meant that they ignored what is better for the squad just to please the only formation that Conte wants to field. Two unknowns and one lame player were acquired because that's what Marotta was only able to sign, covering it with bullshit about Conte not wanting this and not wanting that after each and every failure. And all this is a preparation for creating the scape goat Conte which will face the boot when/if the objectives fail. Then the icing on the cake was the centre back that was ignored since day one and only rushed in the last week. Up until now I don't know what Marotta was doing in the first weeks of August and left all the defender negotiations until the last week.

I will not mention anything about Amauri, Iaquinta and Grosso because it is not Marotta's fault they rejected all offers but loaning out Melo the way he did was a shame. Add to that him suffering in offloading some players was not enough lesson for him that such players don't leave, he went on and signed Pepe, Pazienza, Motta, Giaccherini, Estigarribia and to some extent Elia.
:agree:

Well he was right, Alves was impossible with Bonucci saying no. Lugano wanted too much and Alex well I am assuming Chelsea did not want to sell.

Yeah after trying bidding for all the cb's out there and failing to get any whe suddenly were not good enough.

Two signings I like, Licht and Vidal. Rest were disappointments and players who wasn't too much of an upgrade.

Good PR speak is one thing, but this guy is just so full of shit it's laughable. Way to go with alienating the club's defenders...

No defensive worries for Juve
Juventus’ failure to bring in a new centre-back won’t cost them in the season ahead, insists director general Beppe Marotta.

The transfer chief had targeted a host of new stoppers over the last few months, but nobody arrived.

There were any good enough options available for us,” the former Sampdoria official noted. “As a result we decided to stick with our champions.

Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci, Andrea Barzagli and Frederik Sorensen give us enough to rely on in terms of quality and numbers.

After all, we aren’t involved in European competition this season.

Juventus spoke with the agent of Diego Lugano last month before he left Fenerbahce for Paris Saint-Germain.

Marotta also took a look at Chelsea stopper Alex, Rhodolfo of Sao Paulo, Zenit centre-back Bruno Alves and Salvatore Bocchetti of Rubin Kazan.

Nope, its not, Salvo is right, and so is Marotta.
Guys... maybe the players we were linked to weren't readily available (especially on loan, with an option to buy) but our CB's - other than Chiello - aren't exactly world beaters. The guy had 3 months to find a CB good enough for Juve - actually, he had much longer than that, considering it was pretty apparent during last season that we needed help at that position.

I was really hoping we'd spend 30-40M on defenders this mercato - because we needed pretty damn significant upgrades at 3 positions along the back - and we ended up spending 10M... of 88M dollars in purchases! Considering where this defense has been the past two years, considering it has clearly been our achilles heal for even longer than that, well, it's just so fucking inexcusable... it's just ridiculous.

Either Marotta doesn't realize what our problems are, or he can't prioritize worth shit. Maybe it's both.

Both are unacceptable...

Man, I was hoping for that too. When the window opened I said that I prefer to use the 30-35 mil for our "big superstar Aguero-Rossi-like signing" for two defenders of highest possible quality, preferably a left back and a center back, so we can accomplish a heavy and strong backline and not worry about conceding again +50 goals/season. But, we didnt do that and we will suffer from that.

But for yesterdays situation, Marotta is right, he wanted to get a quality CB to partner Chiello and he and Conte were chosen Bruno Alves, Beppe tried hard to get him, but when everything was ready and Leo said no, we (Marotta) were in front of a dilemma - either buy a random CB or stay with what we have till January. So why buy someone like Gastadello, Andreolli, Bonera and etc (names that we were linked) when they are not better than Bonucci? The idea of getting a new CB is to be better than Bonucci and to create a better partnership with Chiellini, when we couldnt get the players we really really wanted (Lugano, Alex, B Alves - for different reasons), dont waste money for someone just like that. You should admit it, you wouldve been twice more disappointed if after Alves deal was off Marotta had signed someone from the list above and sent Sorensen to Lecce on loan, right?
