I'm officially on the anti-Marotta side now.

He had two months to find a quality CB: FAILED
Said he wouldnt load the squad up like last year: FAILED
Said he would sign three champion players: FAILED
Said he would trim the squad: FAILED

Disgusting and pathetic end to our mercato. If he had least bought us a quality CB we maybe, maybe, could have secured 3rd spot. But with the defence the way it is now, Im sorry but the best we will achieve is 5th or more likely 6th place.

I hope Marotta is gone by the end of the season.

the champions part im not entirely too fussed about, i was pretty satisfied with the quality of the side bar a central defender and perhaps a more capable left back, as for trimming the squad, i agree, didn't really trim it, he let grygera go for free, whilst the others were loaned out with us still left paying most/all their wages.

Decent points Jack, although would you say it is wise to not sign players who fit a 4-4-2 when this is Conte's preferred formation?
Because we shouldn't be using the straight 4-4-2 to begin with. We didn't have the players for it last year, and now we may not their year either. Marotta has had to buy so man flank players while we have a glut of relatively strong players through the middle. Now we have a large group of strikers, two attacking wingers in Krasic and Elia who are probably best used in a 4-3-3, yet we have a coach who is stubborn, like the others we have had.

Any manager who does not fit the system to the players at his disposal is one I'll most likely never like, especially when it's the same straight 4-4-2 we have been using for a number of years ever since Capello was hired. It worked under him due to the fact we had a world class squad despite how lethargic and pathetic the system was, and now it hasn't worked recently under Del Neri. It had massive problems under Ranieri as well.

We need a system and mentality change. Conte might be able to correct the latter, but not the former. The squad has screamed 4-3-3 for years now, worked last year when we used it even against the big sides, but now we have another manager unwilling to give it a go for an extended period of time.

There are failures all across the board at this club, but Marotta takes a lot of the blame.

Good upgrade over Momo for 4th choice CM. And also +7mln.
Pazienza is absolutely not an upgrade over Sissoko. I'm sorry, but he's not.

Good LB. I think he's equal do DC and this is good. Also for free = excellent.
So, therefore, no improvement on the left-side of defense. Thank you for confirming another one of Marotta's failures.

The only thing Marotta can be blamed for - not selling Grosso, Amauri, Iaq. But I think that's not his fault, but those bastards.
So Marotta was essentially faultless.

Thanks for that. I'll be sure not to read your post next time.

Vidal, Pirlo, Elia, Lichtsteiner, all good.

Everything else, poor.

I won't even take into consideration Marotta's promises because he was always full of shit anyway. I'd trust some homeless bum on the side of Brush Street in Detroit before Marotta. We are going to need to win the midfield battle in most of our matches because I don't see the defense bailing us out of any trouble. I fully expect to suffer from the same defensive frailties as last year unless Conte really blows away expectations.

Good luck to us. We'll need it.

I don't like the fact that he's old, but at least he can pass the ball. Nobody else besides Billy Zanetti has been able to do that over the years.
age isnt much of a factor when it comes to Serie A, players generally have a longer shelf life than those in other leagues, largely thanks to their diet and lifestyle. If he can remain fit and as injury free as possible then will no doubt play a vital role this season

Age is always an issue for a midfielder above 30. Not all players are built the same, Pirlo hasn't looked the same for a couple of years, but we have been over this.

So after the merry go-round we're left with Chiellini, a kid and 2 zombies for the CBs, 3 players for one position (LW) and 7 strikers.

Andrea - pull the trigger on this one.

 Can't believe he tried to swap Sorenssen for Andreoli at the last minute and failed.

Incompetent. Hopefully, this his last summer mercato at Juve's helm.

Look I was actually pretty happy with our mercato until the end of July.

Then the first 3 weeks of August this guy sat on his arse and seemingly done NOTHING. No selling of players, no loaning of primavera players, and no buying of LW and CB. Then he moves for 2 average LW/RW in the final week, signs Elia (good, but not great) the day before the mercato closes, and NO FUCKING CB on the last day of the window after heaps of speculation we would sign one. And to make matters worse he tries to palm off one of our most promising youngsters for Marco Fucking Andreolli.

Not good enough. He is a decent to good director, but he's clearly more suited to teams of Sampdoria's level where he isnt expected to be constantly on the lookout for quality players.
