However you try to look at things and interpret them, to constantly promising a top forward and ending up with none is inexcusable. Juve have been lacking a top striker since Trez and it hasn't been addressed yet. This is what we have:

Vucinic: a talented player whose bad days outnumber his good ones; too inconsistent to be the focal point of the attack without which the team can't function, too talented to be on bench. Must have been paired with a better player or sold to make way (financially) for one. He wouldn't be a 15m player if he had good days on a constant basis.

Giovinco: too "small" to be a Juve starter, too noisy to sit on bench.

Matri and Quag: decent squad players and nothing more.

Bendtner: too spacious for both playing on the field and sitting on the bench.

Vucinic was known to be a lazy player who cost you games when is not in the mood to play. Giovinco had been given the chance to prove himself before he left Juve and it was clear that he doesn't have what it takes, both mentally and physically, to be a top player in a top team. We had already derived the most we could out of Matri and Quag and you know there's something wrong with a player who Wenger gives up on.

Money is clearly not the only issue considering the amounts paid on Matri and Quag. Credit to Marotta for all he's done but he's responsible for the problems Juve have in attack. His incompetency to seal deals is obvious. Van Persie and Cavani were not going to happen but he totally screwed it up with Jovetic. The player wanted Juve, his wages were relatively low and his price, despite being inflated, was reasonable considering our serious need for a decent forward. The fact that Juve "tried" to sign forwards in the summer means that Conte had asked for them. It was Marotta's fault who couldn't do his job properly in that department.

you also hard to replace an entire FW line that was either crap, injured or aging.

he certainly deserves the criticism for not delivering on promises, but there were mitigating circumstances too.

nah you just say we should "restructure our way of thinking".....try taking that to the negotiating table big boy,see where that gets you

you want a big name player, you blame marotta for not doing so....i say we do not have the funds to bring in the level/stature of player required to appease the Juventuz gods..we simply cannot afford the type of players you are mocking him for not attaining
No-win situation for him I'm afraid :p

I assume he's aware of both the club's financial state and the market situation to promise a top forward every year. To make such promises, he needs to be aware of the club's transfer budget as well as affordability of certain players. He's not the right man for his job if he needs to enter the market every year to realize that certain players are beyond our reach.

Yup, the money he spent on Quag and Matri is as good as justified. The prices were inflated, and we couldn't really do any better than them...

Again, find my posts where I'm clamoring for big name signings. I'm simply calling him out for his short comings on talking noise and not backing it up.

That's my point, if he's aware of the situation then why is he running his mouth which only makes him look more foolish. Many mercatos have gone by where he's promised a big name but has not delivered. What is the purpose for putting oneself out there for criticism time after time?

am assuming you are being sarcastic...well they both looked like good signings when we first got them, scored goals for fun.

Hindsight hardly makes that a valid point.

I wasn't being sarcastic.

Quag was an italian international, and we got Matri from Cellino (!) on the last the day of the january mercato. Their prices were justified imo..

At the end of the day, Quag's injury fucked a lot of things up. If he didn't get injured, we most likely wouldn't spend €18 mill on Matri. I can't blame Marotta for doing it, hadn't we gotten Matri had we finished below top ten that season

For every missed striker, he brings guys like Vidal, Barzagli and Pogba outta nowhere. Through Marotta we went from shit to one of the best defenses and midfields in the world.

Striker is the hardest position to fill, although you'd perhaps have expected one to be like Vidal and emerge right now. It's a niche role and requires the right guy.
