Giovanissimi Nazionali coach Claudio Gabetta insists his young guns are fired up for this year’s championship finals in Chianciano Terme.
The traditional end-of-season competition, contested between eight teams divided into two groups, will see the Bianconeri lock horns with Inter, Reggina and Roma. Group 2 is made up of Empoli, Milan, Napoli and Torino.
After dominating the league stage of the season in which they boasted the most prolific rearguard and the meanest defence, the Giovanissimi will be looking to replicate their good form in Tuscany.
Yet Gabetta has called for a cautious approach given the calibre of the opposition.
“We’ve definitely ended up in the toughest group out of the two,” he said. “We, Inter and Roma finished our league seasons on top and Reggina managed to knock out Italian champions Fiorentina.”
“There will be difficult games ahead for us, against formidable opponents, but that’s the only way it could be at this point. We’re Juve and we mustn’t fear anyone.”
The Bianconeri launch their Scudetto assault tomorrow evening against Reggina.
“We’re aware of the importance of the first game. Starting with a win doesn’t just give you points on the board, it also gives you belief ahead of the other two games.”
Inter are next up in Ponte a Tressa on Friday 22 June, before Roma provide the opposition in Montepulciano on Sunday 24 June.
The top two teams from each group go through to the semi-finals, to be played on Tuesday 26 June, with the final on Thursday 28 June.
“It’s a heavy schedule,” concluded Gabetta. “You’re playing almost every day. But the lads have prepared well and the psychological aspect will also play a big part. I have a large squad and everyone gives me guarantees.”
“The last test we faced on Sunday went well, we won the tournament in Mirafiori, something we wanted to do to best honour the memory of Alessio and Riccardo.”
