Our European coefficient also played a part which is why we went instead of napoli after they failed to beat Barca last year.
That’s what I meant. You need to be one of the top 2 Italian teams in the UEFA club coefficient rankings.
Our biggest threats for the second spot (Inter are well and clear) will be Roma and Atalanta. If one of those teams fail to make it to Europe in the next 3 years, it would make our chances of qualifying a lot higher.

Probably in an ideal world this type of situations shouldn’t occur, but can’t fault him for working on his future outside the pitch as well as having for himself a safe net to fall into if things go south in this new management role with Juventus, especially after all the managerial firings and struggles of recent years, otherwise as long as there is no palpable conflict of interest and his primary focus will continue to be on his job at Juventus then i don’t think we are in a position to restrict him from anything.

"I'LL EXPLAIN THE NEW #JUVE"

Today a special edition of 80 pages: even #Chiellini celebrates our anniversary.

"I'm growing as a manager, I work well with #Comolli. Here there has never been one person alone at the helm: we are group that works together. We are putting the base for another winning cycle". Mercato: they are accelerating to bring #Kolo with them to Germany.

He’s a legend and serial winner, he’s earned the right to be a leader within the club. No complaints there. What’s been worrying is the total lack of clarity around the club’s vision. At least we’ve got a first timeline, and by the end of 25-26, results will speak, just like with those before him.

Good morning #Chiellini: first thought or memory of Tuttosport? «My father was a juventino and my mother a milanista. I always remember, the day after the games, when my father, at Tirreno, used to buy Tuttosport to read about #Juve. This is my first memory of Tuttosport, moving forward over the years I have always associated it with the city of Turin, even if it didn't only talk about #Juve and #Torino. Memories of my adolescence, when I started reading sport newspaper»

In twenty years of #Juventus, how has your perception of Tuttosport changed? Is it a newspaper that matters within #Juve? «Yes, it matters. Then all media matter a bit and it would be better if it was a bit less. Mainly, at the beginning of my career, the narration could be dangerous, because it can influence either positively or negatively. Now as a manager, ironically, I read more, because I have a duty to understand how we are portrayed. As a player I made sure to not be influenced, to not be destabilized».

You have correctly said that the first scudetto was unexpected. Actually the dark or grey moments, sometimes, suddenly end, when you least expect it, the planets align. Is this an encouraging thought at this moment in which #Juve is struggling?
«In 2011 there were so many pieces that were being put in place, from the stadium to the formation. You taught me that the history of #Juve is made of cycles and anticycles. Then it is difficult to explain, but it is a fact that that the winning cycles and the periods without wins have always alternated on a regular basis. I came here at the end of the #Capello cycle, then I lived the post Calciopoli, then the nine scudetti, then this new anticycle. I have been in hell and in paradise, but at the end if I look at the history of #Juventus, I see that we have the double of scudetti of the club that is behind in the hall of fame, it means that the anticycles of the others are much longer. And maybe this is what distinguishes us, in addition to having an ownership for more than 100 years that guarantees continuity. In these 100 years, not only has football changed but the whole world has, yet #Juve has always kept the same characteristics over the decades».

What has been the darkest moment post Calciopoli?
«The second 7th place, the season with #Delneri. Because it must never happen, but a bad year can be accepted. It was a period in which we thought that we were back, after a third and a second place and the first seventh place was a shock, but with the hope of immediately returning and, instead, the second seventh place was even worse, because we weren't ready to live through it again. I lived it badly, even from me personally».

And did you think, at that point, that the return would be long?
«Well, not that fast, I didn't think that we would win immediately. Even if in that summer important things happened. The change in the path direction was being felt. The Stadium was something that triggered changes».

Let's talk about you, about your evolution. Not everyone understood what you do, many expect that you have absolute command of #Juve. Can you explain it a bit better?
«I joined the club last year, I followed the institutional part and I discovered a new world that goes beyond the pitch, like la Lega, la Federazione and international institutions like the Eca and Uefa, scenarios that I believe is correct to know in order to have a more complete preparation. Then there are the internal dynamics, I've known many people for years, but one thing is to know them and another is to work with them every day. I started doing this last year and I will keep doing it this year, going into a part of #Juventus that is not well known, but that is the motor of this other #Juventus. First you need to understand how the machine works, then you can give your opinion and provide ideas, otherwise it would be presumptuous and counterproductive. Then there is the pitch and I've always supported those who were there last year and those who are there this year. It's a process that I don't like to rush or take shortcuts, but I am always available to everyone. As Damien specified, I don't participate in the mercato choices, but there isn't one single person in charge at #Juventus, we are a group that collaborate together in order to get the maximum. Not even during the time of Andrea #Agnelli there wasn't one single person in charge, because he also delegated a lot to people under him. It will always be like that».

How many share the mercato choices in a club like #Juventus?
«It depends on the importance of the choice. Even the ownership participates in some of the most important choices. No individual person makes choices alone in the mercato, not even #Moggi in the 90s, he spoke to Giraudo... Then it is logic that the sporting director take on the responsibility of the technical choices, as the coach does with the lineup that he sends on the pitch. But at #Juventus the president never made the choices by himself».

Concerning the mercato choices. How do we get out from this anticycle?
«We are trying to build a base, because without a strong base you can't start winning again. The idea is to give solidity, in a way that this group can grow and take on the burden and the honor of starting a new winning cycle».

Is #Tudor the right person?
«Igor has shown what #Juve represents to him and he transmitted that to the players. Then Igor is not only “Juve”, the values he transmitted in the last few months are tangible. The fourth place and a good Club World Cup, in my opinion, play in his favor. The game against #City was a misstep due to fatigue, but against #RealMadrid we played in an honorable way and, maybe, with a bit of luck... Igor brought a nice work culture, there is a desire to do. There is a positive environment. From there for the win, as we know, there are many steps to be done and many obstacles to overcome, but we are going with important values».

A few days ago #Gattuso came.
«Yes, and Rino was pleasantly surprised by the climate and the work he saw».

Does the coach matter more than in the past?
«As he always did. I don't notice a difference in the last 20 years. Maybe they communicate more, there is a media overexposure of coaches and managers, in fact they also spoke in the past before each game. But we accommodate the media».

Why is it so difficult to sell players?
«#Moggi used to say: everyone is good at buying but only a few manage to sell which is difficult to do. I am the wrong person to be asked this question, at this moment, I can say that if you want to sell someone that did well, you name it, it is not difficult. Selling one that played bad... well, it is more complex. Then there is little money, at all levels, A, B and C, it's hard to sell, because no one can spend. #Juve has these issues as any other club, that's why at the end everything is done in the last 15 days of August. Those who have money buy early, the others in the last round, the one with the discounts».

Is #Comolli really the man of algorithms, only data and no heart?
«No, it's a bit of a distorted description. He pays a lot of attention to data, because he believes in numbers, but that doesn't mean that he's only a man of data without any human presence. He is still not known, to many of us, including me. I met him in March in a Uefa meeting, we were sitting close at the table and we had a long discussion, without knowing that we will work together, we laughed a lot about it when he came to Turin. He is a person with whom you work well, a working structure is being created that will be completed in the fall: in terms of work we are working, time will tell if we are doing good or bad job, but there is a lot of desire to sacrifice in order to create that winning cycle we were talking about».

He seems to be a man who lives and breathes football. Is that right?
«He's been doing it since he was a kid and he traveled all over the world, he told me about Japan, for example. All this international experience gave him a more comprehensive overview».
