Gilberto is a very capable player in his own right, but why are we concerned with a player who plays in a position in which we have a surplus of personnel at the moment? There are a number of more pressing issues at hand, namely the need for a centreback to lead the backline and eventually replacing Nedved at the fulcrum of our team's attack. Right now Zanetti is showing himself to be one of our best performers this season, Nocerino is showing some promise and the jury's still out on Almiron and Tiago. It hardly needs explaining why I'm not exactly sweating on the future of our defensive midfielders.

Juventus have emerged as favourites to sign Arsenal star Gilberto after the Brazil skipper’s row with boss Arsene Wenger.
And German keeper Jens Lehmann looks set also to leave in January after he was again left out in the cold for Wednesday’s Carling Cup victory at Sheffield United. Starsport revealed earlier this week how Gilberto – who has lost his place in midfield to Mathieu Flamini – told Wenger he didn’t want to fill in as an emergency centre-half any more.
Gilberto, who had spoken of wanting to finish his career with the Gunners, was upset earlier this season when Wenger did not even bother to tell him he was no longer the club’s skipper.
He found out by reading about the appointment of William Gallas on the Arsenal website.
On Wednesday, Gilberto did play in midfield as Wenger’s young side beat the Blades 3-0 to reach the last eight of the Carling Cup.
Keeper Lukasz Fabianski – making only his second start for the club – was made skipper.
Starsport understands Gilberto declined the opportunity to take the captain’s armband.
It now looks like the popular 30-year-old may be on his way out of the club, with Juve in the driving seat to sign him.
Lehmann, who has not played for the Gunners for over 10 weeks, has now accepted Manuel Almunia is Wenger’s No.1 keeper.
He has not ruled out getting another chance, but is understood to have decided if he is not playing by January he will have to leave to get regular football elsewhere.

Gilberto is questioning his Arsenal future after being overlooked for the captaincy in the summer and losing his place in the side.
Sources close to the Brazil World Cup winner say "he lost everything in three weeks" in a development that could force his departure from the club.
Gilberto returned to the starting XI for the first time in seven weeks on Wednesday as Arsenal's second string beat Sheffield United 3-0 and manager Arsene Wenger said afterwards that he still considers the 31-year-old a "key player."
Despite the possibility of him being drafted into a new-look midfield for tomorrow's home clash with Manchester United, Gilberto remains unsettled and was today linked with Juventus.
A close friend told Standard Sport: "If Gilberto is still on the bench he might have to consider his future. He will see how things are in January then he will see how things are at the end of the season.
"If the situation is still like this in a few weeks maybe he will go to Arsene and see what the boss's plans are for him. He wants to know if he still considers him part of the long-term future at Arsenal."
Gilberto has been the biggest casualty of the astonishing progress of Wenger's young team.
After missing the first three weeks of the season because of the Copa America, Gilberto has been unable to displace Mathieu Flamini in midfield.
To add to his woe, he was surprisingly overlooked by Wenger for the captaincy in favour of William Gallas despite being Thierry Henry's understudy last season.
The double snub has been even harder to swallow because it came after arguably the most productive of his five seasons at Arsenal with 11 goals.

Gilberto is a great player, but is he that big of an upgrade on Zanetti? I haven't seen him as much as some around here, but for Brazil, he looked like the same kind of player with a little more pace.
Priority 1 is defense, that much is clear.
Priority 2 is midfield, to me the ideal signing is someone with the defensive skill of Zanetti, but with the offensive presence of mind of Pirlo. Essentially, a Gerrard type. I'm not sure Gilberto is that kind of player, but if he is, then by all means, sign him.

Its true, its a very hard combination to find. However, this is Juventus, one of the greatest clubs in the world, who apparently is doing very well financially again. The more difficult that kind of player is to find, the more desirable they are, and I think they have to splash out for that kind of player.
I think you'd agree, that's the kind of player this team needs to do well, not only in Italy, but abroad as well. I think both Montolivo and De Rossi are attainable for the right price too, especially Montolivo.
