I wouldn't be suprised if the captaincy went to someone other than Buffon or Del Piero.. The only reason why Buffon won't get it is cos theres a train of thought that a captain should be an outfield player able to influence the whole team, not just the defense and a goalkepper just can't do that, however in saying this Buffon has all the leadership attributes possible and would make a perfect captain besides the fact that he's in goal.. As for Del Piero, IMO he deserves the captaincy more than anyone but the question remains whether or not he'll be starting? If he is, he'll be captain if he's not he won't.. I think it's as simple as that

I love how Buffon is always the first one to extend his contract and such. Such a great, big heart. And it's clear that EVERYBODY loves him, in or out of Juve. :toast:
:agree: Buffon just has that aura about him that everyone loves him.. I talk to Milan, Inter and especially non-italian fans alike and I've never met someone who doesnt say that Buffon is not just a great player but also a great person.. I think it's a great thing as most players can never achieve this regardless of how good they might be

I checked out Gigi's top 10 saves on youtube last night and I'm starting to believe and not think that he's not human. How he made that save on Inzaghi's diving header ....
I just checked out the same video on youtube after reading your post, there were some completely fantastic saves by Buffon, some with his feet only and stuff, and some simply amazing parries. He is legendary for sure. The save on Inzaghi was truly amazing, lightning fast reflexes, loved it. And the sequence of saves that he made that were shown as #2 were also out of this world, not to mention his save vs Cagliari and the well known one vs Lazio on Rochi. Forza Gigi, his legend status has been acquired forever :). Also since Euro 2008 starts in a few days for Italia, considering Del Piero will not start sadly, i might as well say forza Capitano!

My favorite Gigi save was against Parma .. one on one the guy shoots it he blocks it another guy gets it back on the rebound shoots again gigi saves again then finally a header and superman catches the ball .. exactly at 3:24 .. though it's mostly about Cassillas but it's good to watch ..

the best part of this game was exactly after these saves .. the Parma man looks at his manager .. What the hell can I do ?? .. enjoy ..

Cech: Buffon is the best

Czech Republic goalkeeper Petr Cech has taken the time to analyse several of his counterparts at EURO 2008.

Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon will guard Italy’s goal as they attempt to battle their way out of the Group of Death, which comprises France, Holland and Romania.

The 30-year-old is perennially elected to the throne of the great keeper on the planet, and Cech believes the plaudits are more than justified given Buffon’s immaculate consistency.

“He is widely regarded as the best in the world, and rightly so,” said Cech. “He has proved himself at the top level for many years and has been outstandingly consistent.

“He made his debut as a teenager. He is the man every defender in the world would love to have standing behind them and he manages to inspire those in front of him.

“He is always in the right place at the right time and, like all great keepers, he is decisive in the important games on the big stage. He is a great athlete who covers angles magnificently and his positional sense is extraordinary.

“Buffon is fearless and has no obvious weaknesses. He has been outstanding for Juventus and was one of Italy’s most important players at the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany, where they were victorious, but what is amazing is that he has been playing like that for years. He never seems to make a mistake.”
