No he says he will try and play on as long as he can and try to get to the xmas break. That to me is a big deal because how bad is his knee? and two, what if it gets worse or he severely ruptures the ligament worse?
1. The ligament? The meniscus ligament is a ligament that.... does not exist.

2. He wouldn't be the first player to play with an injured meniscus for a while. There have been many field players who have done so without too many problems.

3. He has already had this problem for a while now and so far it has not affectioned his performances.

He said that he has had the problem for quite a while now but that he's fine and that it's no problem for him to play.

Italy's doctor said that it's an old problem, in the end he'll have to be operated but that playing on for one or two more months won't change anything at all and that playing with an injured meniscus is possible because there are injuries and injuries.

source: got the information from gazzetta and tuttosport

Could you all relax now, please?

1.) He is obviously in pain and admitted to the media he needs surgery.
2.) Its bad enough when a player admits that he needs surgery.
3.) Why risk letting it get worse where there is a risk of having a chronic knee problem because we allowed him to "try" and make it to winter instead of doing the surgery now.
4.) I would rather have him get "fixed" now than think it got better and not do the surgery then have it inflame on him big time right as we are starting to get to the knockouts, quarters or higher of the CL.
5.) We have a good back up now, lets fix our keeper instead of risking his knee. It's not like its a "stubbed finger"...its a knee...that....does exist.
6.)You said it well...he has had this problem for a while now and "so far" it hasn't affected his performances but why would you want our best keeper playing in injury risking his knee to get worse where it could affect his performances?

(gazzetta.it)

The situation is neither serious nor urgent. He is NOT in pain.

Good. Thank you. Still, I would like it fixed. If he can make it and as long as he is pain free then lets wait till xmas.

I didn't want to start an argument. I understand very well that you'd feel better if they did the surgery immediately. I just wanted to make clear that the situation is not so drammatic. ;)

I'm notoriously optimistic, what can I do. :juventus:

The Idea of Buffon playing for almost another two months while he already requires surgery worries me. I don't know much about the medical side of sports injuries but isn't there a chance that continuing to play could cause further problems? If so continuing to play Buffon is stupid when we have a fine backup. Relying on Manninger for 7-8 games is not bad he proved that last season, but losing Gigi to further injuries problems because we weren't patient enough to let him get the surgery now? It would be inexcusably dumb, tho not at all surprising considering our medical staff's spotless pedigree

Look...surgery or not...I am optimistic we will still do well:D

I am not one of the few negative nancies here...I am just tired of these injuries.
Yea I know what you mean man, just yanking your chain.

We will never ever get a full squad, it seems that's too much to ask. Buffon is doing excellent with this 'injury' he's had for quite a while it seems, so I'm not too worried. If worst comes to worst, we've got Manninger. Be alright.
