Despite repeated calls from an English public desperate to rid the country of Emile Heskey, Mr Charisma Alan Shearer has always stuck to his guns and refused to backtrack on his international retirement. With the emergence of Wayne Rooney and Jermaine Defoe such calls have died away, but at least Al never came crawling back to the England arena in search of some last gasp-glory. Well Zinedine Zidane (as well as Claude Makelele and Lilian Thuram) has now decided to do just that, and, instead of admitting he was wrong in the first place, world football's most expensive man has come up with a novel reason as to why he is now ready to come back in time for the World Cup.

The sensational Zizou explained away his u-turn by remarkably describing how a mysterious late night visitor convinced him to return to Raymond Domenech's squad. "I would not want people to talk too much about it in case what I have to unveil gets badly interpreted, but what is happening to me is quite mystical and gets out of my control," said Zidane, surrounded by candles as he chanted incantations.

"This is even irrational and that's why I am the only person to be able to truly feel it. One night, at 3am, I suddenly woke up and I then spoke with someone. But no-one knows it. Neither my wife nor anyone else. Until I die I will never tell (who that person was), this is just too crazy. This is someone that you will probably never meet. During the hours that followed I was on my own with that person, at home, and I took the decision to come back. I had never experienced that before, I felt pushed by this force which dictated my behaviour. It was a revelation for me, I had to obey that voice that was advising me."

New Plymouth signing Taribo West is a very spiritual player, and apparently has a gift of being able to foresee his footballing future through dreams. Even his move to Home Park appears to have been pre-ordained, as the Nigerian star told The Independent. "Before I went to Qatar last year I had a revelation. I saw myself playing in a stadium in front of a small crowd. When I arrived at the club to discuss joining them it was the same stadium I had seen in my revelation. They were playing in the same shirt, I just knew it was right. Three or four days before I came to Plymouth I had a similar experience, I saw myself playing for a Second Division team in Spain. Then I realised that God was simply showing me a sign that I would join a Second Division team somewhere, it was the voice of God. The Spirit was telling me: 'Taribo, you have to go'". It's a bit of a shame the big guy forgot to say 'Taribo, don't forget to sort out your work permit properly', otherwise maybe the defender could have made the first two games of the season instead of being stuck in Italy.

Either Zizou had a religious experience, or he got a call up from the Blues Brothers to bring the band back together for a charity fundraiser. They sound equally plausible. ;)

He declare in Marca newspaper that he was very mad about that news... that he didn't say that it was a mystical thing...

He talk to his brother, and by the way, just for the record, his brother is alive so don't come saying that he came from the dead or something :D

Come on, it's not a miracle.
A miracle would be Maldini playing internationally again.
Which is something I'd like, by the way.

wasnt it ricardo that claimed that eusebio told him to take of the gloves and he did and he catched the penalty against england ?
It was actually God telling eubasio to tell a goalkeeper to take off his gloves so they could win a football match against the english, only so they could go on the final and lose.

God has a sick sense of humour.

Yep. I think the story goes that Eusubio said something to fire him up, and the only thing he could think of at the time was to go bare knuckles on that last fateful PK by Darius Vassell.

Yeah, Chx, Taribo talks to God alright. That's why when he went to Derby, he ended up back in Inter, and then Qatar, and now Plymouth. God wanted him to experience the highs and the lows. Haven't u heard he has a church in PH?
