Does anyone else get fed up with feminist or hominist media texts? Game of Thrones is baffling as it is both feminist and misogynistic, hitchhikers guide is one of the few unisex texts i can think of, although shakespeare was into unisex(ism) - tempest, taming of the shrew, much ado about nothing and dickens - great expectations, oliver twist et al.

Firstly The Taming of the Shrew was sexist as hell. Who takes a perfectly good woman and makes her submissive and obedient to her husband? No man wants me because I have a temper. If I were Kate I would tell Petruchio where he could stick it and buy myself a vibrator. Secondly, no I am not fed up with feminist media texts simply because women have always been the "black people" of the two genders and even in this day and age we still have to fight for equality which is ridiculous in my opinion but it is what it is. Thirdly misogynists are assholes and can bite me.

You and I read taming of the shrew in different ways, I read it as a text of mutual development not of misogyny, but thats the great shame of past poets....we can only assert.

Its sweet, it takes the caring instinct to its social extreme and it makes me feel safer with my parents knowing that.

I can call it a mutual development as they both grow as humans, something lacking from all characters in Game of Thrones.

Why would you want your child to have to cope with something that is likely going to bring them hardship? I don't care if my child is gay, but I don't wish it upon them, as I think it is a difficult life to lead.

I usually get that question because of my appearance. I tend to wear black a lot and my hair is black and I use mostly black nail polish but alas I am not a goth. My tastes tend do to be quite strange though.

Do you not remember being a teenager? All of the confusion you had, learning your body, social interactions etc. etc. Its the same for all of us, regardless of sexuality. The reason I want to (and I assume my family wanted to) have a child of alternative sexual preference is because I have supported friends through that and seen what they need to get through it and i'd want to be a parent to give them the support they need.

I do, and it was difficult, but I wonder if it wouldn't have been worse had I been gay. But I still can't see how one can wish discrimination on their own children. I understand preferring if a gay child had you as parents, as opposed to others, but not actively wanting your child to be persecuted. I know it's only anecdotal, but I have held my best friend in my arms as she's wept and wished she weren't the way she is, and I do not wish that on anyone, especially my own children.

Why not hope for an even more difficult situation? Your child would need even more support if he was born a cripple, for example.
