They have somewhere between 25 and 20 million pounds to spend this summer. They're hardly poor and don't really need to make any massive purchases this year. They need a quality second striker behind Torres, a right back to push Arbeloa, and a young cb to replace Hyppia. Any more than that and they will sell, but that doesn't mean they need to sell any of their star players to get what they need in the transfer market. Babel, Degen, Voronin, will probably be sold. If you remember, Liverpool signed Mascherano, Kuyt, Agger, and Torres to big long term contracts and Alonso still has 3 years on his current deal, those deals woudn't have been done if Liverpool were completely out of cash.
