I am sure that the club knew exactly when Gabriel would be eligible for competitive action. He is young, and held his own admirably in his last season in a brazilian league involving some hard and talented players. He shone in that Resende team, and would surely have had other potential suitors, both domestically and abroad after winning the awards...(second best midfielder and best newcomer?). We paid very little for him and his brother...indeed, Guilherme is less of a known to have potential signing, but perhaps he has something, perhaps gabriel seems potentially brilliant enough to bring his brother along for the ride, who will be sold on at a later date, to a club in italy...help our future superstar settle into his new surroundings.
that would be fine by me. for what i have seen of gabriel is wonderful. admittedly as little as most of you, but still, that little is wicked to watch and draw hope from.
Whatever the reasons, its good for him to be with the primavera, and training now and then with the first team squad...we signed him for peanuts...come january he will know his team-mate, more of the culture of club and country, and be more likely to hit the ground running.
i have high hopes for the lad.
