:agree:not just that, madrid is playing better than any of their previous teams in the past 7-8 years. An exit from the champions league doesn't mean that they're failed IMO.
When you have spent over 250M in one transfer window, and you won't reach the quarter finals in the Champions League at least, it kinda does.

If Pellegrini wins them the league, he didn't failed, not at all. Surely they could and should've done a lot better than getting eliminated by Lyon, but it's pretty impossible to win in Europe with team that's playing together for first year. Even if you have the players Madrid have, in CL the small details matters.

With 6-7 new players added this season, new manager and even a new president you can't expect a team to go all the way to the querter/semi-finals that fast. Doesn't matter how much you spend, Its a complete new team.

Same thing happend with Barca in 2003-04 season when Rijkaard took over, they were knocked out from celtic :shifty: in the Uefa cup even before the quarter finals round. Ended up 2nd in the league behind Valencia that year but they did have a great performance that season (and in the next few years they've won almost everything).

Performance is key IMO, And The current Real team is better than all the teams that i've seen in the past 7-8 years (performance wise).

That team, like any other team who changes that amount of starting players, needs time to gel of course. But I can assure you that no one expected their elimination on the last 16 knockout rounds, against Lyon.

That makes their Champions League run, this season, a failed one. I am giving them credit for La Liga though.

He is young, Italien and he has done wonders with Fiorentina and above all he was never given a chance with a big club.
what wonders are you talking about?
Fiorentina got to their expected place each season
They were never a title contender and always fought to get in the CL and Prandelli got exactly that so I wouldn`t call it a wonder I would call it meeting expectations
If Palermo or Napoli enter the CL then I would call it a wonder

He hasn't failed. He is top of the league FFS.

think you are all missing teh point here,Real spent that much money because they wanted the CL THIS year, they wanted their 10th European Cup this year at the Bernabeau since they are hosting it

crashing out at this stage AGAIN is viewed as a massive failure

I was laughing at Fred's comment. Even if they win La Liga he failed in Madrid. So what if he's first?

CL is what counts for them and all that money that went down the drain.

Still, that doesn't have to mean that Pellegrini is a bad coach. Real is just :howler:

    Strong trolling right there
Not at all it's a very valid point.

A top 7 team taken from obscurity to CL football by a manager that cobbles together a team very cleverly and buying perfect fits for his tactical system.

That sounds like both Villarreal and Fiorentina to me.

As for Pellegrini not being a failure? He is. Even if they win La Liga which the probably won't that's 1 trophy for 250M, they've won in with worse teams then this one, it's nothing to be proud of.

I'm sorry I did not turn the sarcasm mode on before posting. I thought it was evident that I think that Prandelli is the most overrated manager on this forum.
