Very nice. Everest is dangerous don't get me wrong, but it's far from being one of the most technically challenging mountains out there. K2 is much more difficult. I'd try Everest even if I could die while doing it, but that's just me.
K2 is the hardest, no doubt, but Everest has the glamour.

I would walk on the moon without an oxygen mask on. I'll become a legend forever. I'll enjoy all the glamour and recognition in my next life, when I'm a homeless bum claming to be that dude that walked on the moon without an oxygen mask.

Indeed, the draw is huge as is the fee. I think it's about 70k per person these days. Though no mountain is truly safe. I think McKinley still snatches a life about once or so a season. A few of the Pakistani mountains are real devils as well. Read Into Thin Air if you're interested in some first hand account. Krackour gives references to some very good climbing books that are worth looking into.

I would have never thought K2 is the most difficult mountain in the world, because doesn't Everest have steeper peaks? Or does K2 have a longer duration of more difficult terrain?

Everest is one of the least technical 8000m peaks. It's steep in places but you tend to have ropes already in place for you. People tend to say it's one of the easier high altitude climbs, but really there are no "easy" climbs at over 8000m. When things go bad on Everest they tend to go very bad, and it's mostly because of the altitude.

There isn't really a "most difficult" peak in the world. There are peaks which require certain levels of technical ability. Everest is the tallest and that's where it gains it's prestige. Though climbing any mountain over 8000m is no joke. The slightest miscalculation, mistake, or change in the weather can leave even the best climbers in a fight for his life. A lot of expert climbers have been turned off by the commercialization of the world's highest peak because they feel it's lost some of its mystique. And that's mostly where it gets its "easy" reputation.

Interesting. I know that much of it depends on the weather but I have no idea about the difficulty in terms of the terrain. I don't really follow this stuff but it's still interesting.

Since we're talking about difficult mountains to climb..have you people heard of Nanga Parbat?

Its 8026ft tall i think. It's in the Hindu Kush in Nortern Pakistan, and is known as the 'Killer Mountain'.Supposedly,it's even more dangerous than K2.

Coming to Andy's question,i would attempt climbing both Nanga Parbat and K-2,in the winter.I think Everest has been climbed in the winter, but im positive K-2 and Nanga Parbat havent.

Now that is what I'm talking about. I'd buy an M3 and drive right past the signs and Camos on the roads towards area 51.

    Watch this shit.
