    Beckham angered by spitting feud

    Beckham and Toda clash
David Beckham has accused Tokyo Verdy's Kazuyuki Toda of spitting in his face during Real Madrid's shock 3-0 defeat.
The Spanish club were stunned by a team who have conceded 26 goals in six games and recently fired Ossie Ardiles.

But the result was overshadowed by an ongoing feud between the England skipper and the former Spurs player.

"Toda spat in my face. That in life is horrible, but in football no players like that," Beckham said. "Our players saw it and weren't happy about it."

Real boss Vanderlei Luxemburgo weighed into the argument saying Toda provoked Beckham.

"Toda was very dirty," the Brazilian said. "He kicked Beckham when the ref wasn't looking. At half-time some of the players got over excited."

However, Beckham played down the incident at the break when he and team-mates Ronaldo and Michel Salgado tried to force their way into the Verdy changing room.

"It was only handbags, but nothing much," the 30-year-old explained. "Just a few words were exchanged, nothing more."

Toda denied attempting to rile his opponent and the accusation of spitting.

It's about getting our fitness and our fitness is not at the level it will be in a few months

    David Beckham

"Beckham kicked me and I swore at him," he said. "Some spit flew but it didn't hit him. That's why he got angry I think."

Three first-half goals from Daigo Kobayashi, Washington and Takuya Yamada saw the Japanese side ease to victory.

Michael Owen went close, while Beckham threatened with a long-range free-kick before being substituted after almost an hour.

It was the fourth game of a six-match pre-season tour and Real now take on J-League side Jubilo Iwata on Wednesday before finishing their money-spinning tour with a friendly in Thailand.

Beckham was unconcerned by the result after coming back into the side after shaking off a hamstring injury but conceded that Real's punishing pre-season schedule was taking its toll.

"We're bound to be tired," he said. "Four games in six or seven days is tough. But it's about getting our fitness and our fitness is not at the level it will be in a few months.

"That's what these games are all about."

Dutch midfielder Mark van Bommel impressed for his new side Barcelona in their 4-0 friendly win over Danish side East Jutland at the weekend.

"Van Bommel has got everything and brings new balance to the team," fellow countryman Giovanni van Bronckhorst was quoted in Spanish daily Sport on Monday.

"He gets into the area, works hard, gives some great passes and is going to make our midfield even stronger than it is already."

I also read somewhere that Vedry is one of the worst teams in Japan- on the bottom on their leauge (J-Leage I think it's called).

And, they've conceeded 23 goals in the past four matches!
