The way that Italy is running this sport is just laughable, we live through an age where 2 wingers are being debated as 2 GOAT footballers but then we turn to the Italian side where we can see such an incredible list of Italian wingers that are currently active.
To be fair, Italy has barely produced top wingers. Euro 2020 was the exception, with Chiesa, Insigne and Berardi in good form. Otherwise, look at the list of wingers in the squad in 1994, 2006 or 2012. The wingers were always supporting actors rather than the stars, and most often rather playmakers, central midfielders or wingbacks.

Please name three world class Italian wingers the past thirty years. Compare that list to the attackers, defenders, central midfielders or goalkeepers.

That's the criticism, Italy is neglecting an important position in the sport, not only it affect the national team and Italian teams (I don't care about them) but more importantly it affects Juve as well, I say currently we're very lucky to be able to get yildiz (not even a winger) and Conceicao to fill such needed positions for relatively cheap (Gonzales can't even be rated yet), otherwise we have to compete with wealthier clubs in the international market to find such an important ingredient for all contemporary champion teams.

If Italy produce chiesa players on a regular basis, we'd be in a much better position.

Italy doesn't produce wingers because they have this obsession of turning everybody into a second striker because they prefer their wingers to be defenders. Giovinco for example was a similar player to Conceicao but for some reason they never used him on the wing. Look at Chiesa, he's your typical winger but has in Serie A never been used as a winger but instead as an SS and wingback.

The giovinco comment was gold.

He maybe would never cut it anyways, but he was definitely made to be a winger and not a SS

Dribbles the ball way too much, doesn't have much end product. Looks like a typical short winger with really good dribbling skills.
Still won us a point by forcing that PK though.

Partly because our fullbacks don't overlap so often and he lacks support. That happens on the other side of the pitch too.
Think there is still plenty of room for improvement with him, however just as you said the tactics and supporting cast around him will count a lot in his development and in the kind of impact that he will have on the long run.
