
As part of a United Nations initiative to fight hunger, footballers from 300 European professional clubs will this weekend take to the field to display their support for the population of the Sahel region in Africa, where urgent action is required to avoid a humanitarian disaster involving an estimated 16 million people.
The ‘Match Day Against Hunger’ campaign was launched in 2008 to highlight the situation of people who suffer from hunger and malnutrition. The European Professional Football Leagues (EFPL) have organised for the campaign’s message to be spread by football clubs in 20 different leagues across 16 European countries.
