I think it is calculated by chances your team creates and how dangerous they are. It actually seems fairly useful in this FM as a good way of tracking how well your team is playing I've noticed a very solid correlation between high xg and good results

Of course my star player, Dawid Kownacki of Poland, (25 goals and 12 assists in 29 games) decided to be a fucked ass little bitch and leave on a bosman. Refused to even talk about signing a new contract. On the brightside my mercato prowess has landed a much better, far superior Nicolo Tresoldi

Already picking up Ws in Bundesliga 1 now. Doubt I can challenge Bayern for the title but I'm thinking a CL spot is doable despite the fact my squad is still mostly 2nd division players
