Fifa's Dispute Resolution Chamber has ruled that Nigerian whizkid Mikel John Obi will have to return to Norway and honour his contract with Lyn Oslo.

A seven-page document signed by Fifa Deputy General Secretary Jerome Champagne stated that Obi was in breach of contract for failing to return to Lyn after taking part at this year's World Youth Championships in Holland.

"By not resuming duties with his club after having represented his under-20 national team in the FIFA World Youth Championship, John Obi Mikel has failed to perform his contractual obligations and, therefore, has committed contractual breach," the statement by FIFA`s Dispute Resolution Chamber read.

Obi's defence, according to the document, was that he would "he will return to Norway only once all the necessary documents allowing him to stay and work in the country have been sorted out."

These documents are his visa and work permit, but the DRC noted that, ". . .John Obi Mikel has been duly granted the visa and work permit required.

"It has therefore been decided that John Obi Mikel must immediately resume duties with Lyn Oslo FC in accordance with the employment contract concluded on April 22, 2005.

"Should the player fail to return to his club in Norway, the case will be submitted to the next meeting of the Chamber in order for it to take the appropriate action."

Mikel left Norway in the wake of the transfer furore generated when he agreed a contract with Manchester United last April.

Lyn Director Morgan Andersen told KICK OFF that his club has been vindicated by the Fifa ruling and says the club expect Obi to "jump on the next available plane to Norway. We want him back at once and we will welcome him back. The fans want him back and his team mates also want him back.

"With him on the team, we have a good chance of winning the title this season," Andersen told KICK OFF.

Mikel's agent John Ola Shittu was non-committal about the decision.

"We will not be saying anything about what we will or will not do," Shittu told KICK OFF.

They finally got to him minus his agents...

In a recent interview with Ralph Chidozie, Mikel said he was ready to honour the controversial contract he signed with Sir Alex Ferguson’s club, before going to the FIFA World Youth Championship.

The Nigerian player had earlier visited the youth club of Manchester United and Chelsea camp before the proposed move, but his club played a fast one on his agent by selling him out ahead of time.

Sharing his experience on Manchester United camp, he said: "It was nice when I went there, everybody welcomed me and I stayed there for over two months, the manager was very nice to me. After that I went back to Nigeria and then I went to Chelsea and stayed there for almost a year and things did not work out and I had to go to Manchester United again."

On how he was contacted for the move, he said: "Well, Man U officials have been visiting me secretly in Oslo and nobody knew about it, they kept asking me if I was still interested in Chelsea and, kept presurising me and won my heart over Chelsea, and then everything happened so fast after that.0
“Everything went that way due to the fact that Chelsea officials didn’t come on time for the deal.

"Yeah, that’s the way it went, many agents are in touch with me and there is no one that has a complete hold of me, that’s why it happened that way. But I am happy the way the transfer was handled, despite the fact that Chelsea will be hurt.”

On whether he would have opted for Chelsea if they had come for him earlier, he said: "Aahhh, well, maybe, just maybe. Chelsea is also a big club with big money and any player would love to play for them, and they just won the Premiership, which is any player’s dream but all the same, I am happy with my deal with Manchester United.”
Before now, Mikel had planned to stay at Lyn pending the time of his proposed move to the Premiership.

"I was told to wait and play with Lyn, instead of moving immediately and training without a game, the rest of the season in Norway will help me get more experience and maturity, while watching Manchester United games. That’s why Man U officials told me to remain at Lyn Oslo, that is no problem, I am happy that I have to be here for this season and may be by December I will move and start playing for Manchester in January.”

On whether he’s afraid of Stars like Roy Keane, Ruud van Nistelroy, Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, he said: "To play with such world stars like that, I am very happy to be with them and it’s going to be fine. I hope to learn from them," he emphasises.

I think this proves my theory that the whole will he-will he not show is being run by agents! :greedy: twats

I think that those bastards at NFA are playing tricks. They are in on whatever rubbish is happening. FFS how long does it take to get a bleeding visa?

Officials have informed KICK OFF that John Mikel Obi and as well as the other Nigerian youngsters at Norwegian club Lyn Oslo have been held back from returning to their base as result of difficulties they have encountered getting entry visas into the country.

The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) have therefore contacted the Foreign Affairs Ministry to prepare a Note Verbal for the players which will speed up the process of their getting visa.

KICK OFF learned that Lyn would have to wait till next week for the return of Chinedu Ogbuke, Ezekiel Bala and Emmanuel Sarki due to and work permit delays.

KICK OFF learned further that only John Mikel Obi, who will hopefully get his renewed work permit on before the end of the week, would be joining the club this week.

Following the decision of Fifa's Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) on 12 August that Obi "has to immediately resume duties" with Lyn, the club gave him until last Friday to return or face possible sanctions.

But delay in getting a renewed work permit and entry visa derailed his plan of joining the Norwegian side after the international friendly against Libya.

“Obi will definitely return to Norway this week while others [Sarki, Ogbuke and Bala] will be joining him next week,” a close associate of agent John Shittu told KICK OFF on Tuesday.

“Contrary to reports in the local media, the boys will return to Norway next week once they get their documents from the Norwegian home office early next week.

“We have communicated with Lyn as regards this trouble and they quite appreciate efforts to ensure they all return on time,” he said.

Obi, who played a key role in Nigeria's impressive performance at the World Youth Championship in Holland, had caused stir in the summer, after he signed for Manchester United and later said he would prefer to play for English champions Chelsea.

However, Morgen Anderson, Lyn's sporting director, insist they expect Obi's transfer to Manchester United to go ahead as planned.

“After the Fifa verdict, everything is now up to the player, Lyn and his representative to sort out, but the most important thing is for the youngster to be allowed to realise his professional dreams and ambition.

“He has been through a lot and what he needs now is a positive media attention and not the controversies that has surrounded him in the last months.”

A visa? Is this a joke? These kids have lived in Norway for 4 years and trained with Lyn, they still need a visa????

The visa thing was just crap, Lyn had had that all sorted out for him a long time ago. It's not good to wish bad things about others, but let's just say I'm not hoping that Mikel does too good in England.

I feel so let down and disappointed by the whole thing as it only reinforces the twisted view that Nigerians are a greedy lot. All the (Nigerian) parties involved in this saga are...

From Mikel Obi (the player), John Shittu (the agent) and Ibrahim Galadima (NFA Chairman).

    :tears:
