Keep an eye on the off ball runs of opposition strikers, pressure the player on the ball with another defender, and use the sprint to help you mark and follow anyone in position for a run. Works for me.

My defence isn't airtight but I rarely ever get caught out for a 1-1 or through ball with those tactics and I only use three at the back.

I have no problem defending cheap through balls. Kyle is spot on. I usually get control of one of my cbs and stay deep to read the game to block that final ball, send the cpu to do the closing down.

My previous post was just a rant about the general tactical side of gameplay which is still very poor.

I use manual too but I switch players with right stick and if u get used to it its a huge advantage.

It's a bit tricky to get and also keep licesens over the years B. That's why PES editing is a plus when it comes down to this stuff.
