A friend of mine who watched the EPL and La Liga thoroughly as he is a fan of both United and barca (he was a Juve fan before Calciopoli :lol2:). Anyway he is a very good football knowledge and his opinion is spot on most of the time. I discussed with him both Llorente and Dzeko and asked him who he thinks is better, at first he said they are almost the same but in the end he said that Llorente is the better player. He is now in Scotland so I cannot get details on his decision but I will one he comes back.

Llorente is a very good player, but when you start out being linked with guys like Cavani, Higuain, RVP, leading to Suarez and Jovetic, only to end up with Llorente, then obviously it's somewhat underwhelming and will leave quite a few disappointed.

Nice Avatar Hust. Please keep it, as we already own Vucinic, so there's no risk of you jinxing anything :D :p

And he is still your friend, why? :D
He's fun. He is actually an Aberdeen fan and that's why he likes United. barca he follows only but he has no feelings for. Juventus he used to like a lot because we used to kick Rangers ass in the CL back in the days and he continued to follow them. He doesn't know much about the team and that's why he lost interest after Calciopoli, he liked the way we played last season and thought it was extremely impressive to end the season undefeated.

Llorente has drawn a lot of interest from big European clubs in the last couple of years, why would he be an underwhelming signing? Actually Liverpool bid £25m for him when they sold Torres, so we are moving at the right time, if he is available for less.
Really? I would say he's not in the top rung of strikers if at 27 he's still plying his trade in Bilbao. Given the amount of money in the game, he could've been prised away despite the basque roots. But that apart, this does seem like an underwhelming signing if only on the surface of it, as most signings tend to be judged initially. Maybe it has to do with the fact that he's jot as well documented a player as some of the others we've been linked to even if he's got some impressive numbers. That perhaps coupled with the fact that he's inherited arguably the finest generation of Spanish players ever. I honestly wouldn't use liverpool's sporting opinion. They've done nothing right in recent history apart from signing Suarez and having PreetAguero sing You'll never walk alone, in skimpy clothing hopefully. :D :p

He's in the top 20 i guess.

And by the way nice avatar :p.
Assuming we've already missed out on the top 19 in the last two summers, he would probably be a few rungs lower than the top 20. Though he's probably the poor man's Torres, I'd say we should've done better.

Bilbao did reject a big bid from Liverpool, some say it was actually £30m. Basically they went with Carroll as another choice. I don't deal in rumours, if I did I would be naming every big club in Europe as they have all been linked to him. The Basque factor is a large one, they can't replace players like him, and players have an attachment to the club.

So him being 27 is no big deal, he is approaching his peak, which is probably one reason why he now wants to move to a bigger club.

Same could be said about Cavani who's still playing for " Napoli ", you know how hard for basque players to move from Bilbao, they had amazing players throughout the years and they where highly rated despite staying there and the most glaring example is Etxebarria. Llorente has been impressive for a couple years now, and i can't think of 20 strikers that are better than him and playing for Bilbao shouldn't mean anything in this case.

Purely on the surface of it, would you consider this to be the kind of top signing we've been going hammer and tongs about all summer?! Marrotta came out and said isn't Asamoah a top player? Conte said the same about Vidal. What Llorente may or may not turn out to be is another matter, but at face value isn't it a letdown seeing the people we've been linked with?
