FYI, I like Giorgo, and you can never be too absolute and sure with football, being him being 25 now and one being able to guage his talent so far, IMO one can somewhat say he will probably NEVER be as good as Cannavaro at his best. Was unreal at his best.

Melo will make our midfield one the of toughest to outmuscle in europe that's fir sure. Especially if we keep poulsen, I still think that d'ago is more of what we are needing to help our build up. Melo can pass quite well, and I am sure his vision will improve but I don't think it will be as good as d'agos. However us signing melo would be a slap in the face for Pozzo but if he earns more from Real then he gets his revenge.

I hate to see good italians leave when italy is trying to build their league back up.

As far as canna vs chiellini. Canna was uncanny and he simply made defending an art and a joy to watch. Chiellini has a long way to go to read the game as well as canna did/does. A younger canna hands down is better by a mile. Chiellini is too clumsy and doesn't always make the smartest decision, he still has a lot to learn.

Back to Melo. Our midfield consisting of Melo, sissoko, poulsen, diego, camo, giovinco, zanetti is like Sparta vs the world. They were built to conquer. I don't see a Milan or Inter midfield winning any battle against ours. Most games I think are won through the midfield and as young and ruthless as ours will be I see us:

1.). Conceeding less, regardless of our current wingbacks.
2.). Scoring much more goals from our midfielders.
3.) Less predictable
4.). Hopefully better passing, possession and transition.
5.) Its going to be absolute gridlock in midfield for our opposition as they won't have very far to go.
6.). Even Cronios will be satisfied as stubborn as he is :p
7.). Our service to our striker(s) will be sublime to the highest degree.
8.). Expect long well written narratives from weedguru.
9.). Diego/gio 10 plus goals each (you heard it here first)
10.). We will have a MUCH easier time with the smaller teams this year as we have the players capable of unlocking even the most stubborn defenses that prefer to sit back on us.
11.). Melo and sissoko to suffocate the counterattacks that hurt us last year.
12.) Molinaro might have a good game
13.). Andy might not be as extreme, however there will always be an exception.
14.). Our Live threads will be great to follow during the game.
15.). Lastly, we are going to score so many goals it will be ridiculous.

One more thing, italy 2006 had the best defenders, Nesta, Zambrota and grosso, and midfield was just rock De rossi and Gatuso, all im saying is that when Cannavaro, played with great team he was OK, but when his team mates are averages he sucks, We all saw him two years in real madrid, he was shit, while chiellini no matter
Do you even know football? Real?, its not Real, its La Liga thats so fucked up open. Dont bull youself talking about Canna as an average player. Yes, now, he might be, but he is a legend.

Back to Melo: hate to wait till ............................

Melo will be a very good signing, but D'Ago was more necessary. He is the type of player we lack at the midfield. And why 22 ml for Melo and not for D'Ago, strange.
I assume that you are echoing and amplying the Arrigo Sacchi comments that D'Agostino would offer more Pirlo-like midfield creativity than Apple Tree.

I think that Juve have done the right thing and our new fiery midfielder has plenty of creative (and inspirational) attributes that will (with Diego) supply the front two with oodles of chances.

We are now virtually there, mercatowise. Just one more player needed in the defence. A player who is both experienced playing at LB and CB.

According to Sky sport Italia Melo move will be officiall today
Read that and was thinking if we could employ the 4-2-2-2 formation now that Melo is almost here. I don't want to rush things by saying he is sure to sign, but ... I am so confident about it. :agree:
About Cannavaro vs Chiellini debate I tend to disagree with most here. Canna was a legend and a great defender - there is hardly a second opinion - but his ultimate achievement was the WC and there Chiellini was equal IMO. Besides at his age Chiellini is forming to be the next Italian defending wonder. I say only time will tell who is better.

I do believe though that we would get a LB or RB. Santacroce is an ideal option, Santos wouldn't disappoint me either.
What do u think?
..........,,,.BUFFON(MANNINGER).........

D'Ago isn't so much better passer then Melo. Melo has great quality both in the defense and the offensive play. And Melo creates balance between the attacking and defending. Diego do not have to think of defending. Sissoko and Melo will build a wall.

This is stupid canna in his prime was an immaculate defender, chiellini is too rough, it might be his style but it just comes across as clumsy. If the younger canna had been in the penalty situation against the US giorgio was in he would have prevented it with a perfectly timed tackle. Plus chiellini got raped by drogba in the CL, canna would have eaten him, no question. I can't believe this is even being debated, it's a no brainer, canna wins hands down.

i have just thought about the playing styles of d'agostino and melo and came to the conclusion that melo will fit us better.

if you look at all the cool passes d'agostino can do over the defense and breaking offside traps and high defensive lines it looks very great. just watch his youtube videos ... he is sooo cool, but wait ...

all these passes you will see are nice, but are only useful, when the opponent leaves the space behind the defence ... to play those nice through balls.

let's stop dreaming and realize that most teams will not even dare to attack us (to leave space for the counter attack) but just sit back and try to defend with 11 men and in those situations d'agostino will not bring you much. high balls ? yeah, right ... they are easily headed away in the crowded penalty box of the opponent.

further the game d'agostino likes to play (kind of one touch football) fits a team that does run a lot and where many people make runs, but that is not the game we are going to play. i don't think diego would like to have the ball played ten metres in space to dash after it ... diego will want to get the ball played straight into his feet to do something with it and not just be a small part of a team where everybody runs and makes just a few touches before playing the ball on.

this brings us to melo who will add a bit of steel in the defence and further help us bully the smaller teams (like inter) with violence and strength and not with nice one touch passes without actually achieving one meter on goal (like barca sometimes).
