He had one decent game and multiple horrible ones, it cannot be called a decent start...
His "one decent game" was the first one he started in his preferred position and he scored one goal, assisted the other, and created the third one, being the man of the match in that game. If that's only a "decent" performance then I guess no one is up to your standards.

The rest of his "horrible" games have been mainly off the bench or playing out wide on the left despite him preferring the right, where he has registered another screamer (salvaged us a point against Atalanta) and 3 more assists (one salvaged a point against Benevento, one salvaged a point against Crotone) while showing plenty of hustle and guts.

I think his start has been even better than I expected. I never considered him a game changing player let alone someone worth even close to 60m but he has positively surprised me.

Yeah but, we played a very weak team, its easy to shine vs nobodies...
IT MEANS NOTHING, esp if it only happens once!
Our corrupted, mgnt has decided to buy him anyway, i would like to see him regularly perfrom like that vs competitive teams, but we should not kid ourselves

You gotta wonder what is it about. Because Chiesa is a good player but 60m good? Not in a million years. He tries very hard, runs tirelessly but all that effort usually ends up nowhere. For example his great run in the 2nd half, he gets into penalty box, plethora of options and then he just passes the ball to opponent.

I blame the coach. Chiesa is constantly being pushed to the left, sometimes he's playing centrally. He should be on the right. Pirlo wants to play this hybrid makeshift formation. It's the coach. Let him play a full season as a rw, and then we can judge

At least he was trying out there. Only him, CR and MdL were trying.
I don't doubt his effort and I like having a guy like that in the squad. Pepe was similar, you know you will get 100% out of him for 90 mins (well in Chiesa's case until he loses the ball, complains for a few seconds then tries to chase it back).

But come on, in that price bracket and chunk of our budget you need to be doing better. He's a headless chicken at times.

Let me say this before saying anything else: I never said he is worth what we are paying for him. He is no way a 60m player, no one is denying that.

But people bashing him today? While he was one of the few who tried and did something? What were you expecting of him today when we were a man down and had all going against us + a shit ref? Bonucci, Bentancur, Cuadrado deserve to be bashed, but him? Come on now.

Only Ronaldo graded out higher today on Sofa, so he’s essentially the last guy anyone should be crying about. But the truth is a large portion of the fanbase hated him before he even played a game for the club, all because of...his price tag? So confirmation bias will always be there and any little mistake will be magnified.

I thought you were defending his price tag as you replied to my post where I questioned it. That's my mistake.

I don't see why he shouldn't be criticised though, he had a poor game. Just because he tried and others were poor doesn't mean he can't be criticised.

Thats why I clarified myself.

He shouldnt be criticised because he was trying, giving his best in a very tough game while evertying went against us like I said. You are using the price that we are paying for him as a reason to criticise him, which Is not ok if you ask me.

And no, he didn't have a poor game. He had an ok game, one of our better players tonight, not that it is saying much but still. Bonucci, Cuadrado and Benta had a terrible game, Chiesa didnt.
