Here is a famous trappism :

"Non dire gatto se non ce l'hai nel sacco" - Giovanni Trapattoni, Italy's national coach.

Lol, it's a classic :D

Well it's very socio-linguistic to tell you the truth.

Roughly speaking it means : "do not forget to count your chickens before they are hatched".

But in fact it has a somewhat provincial, old-fashioned ring to it in italian which is hard to reproduce in english. When Trap said this in a press conference the journalists couldn't refrain from grinning.

Thinking of it now, Trap's most classic line was that interview he gave as Bayern's coach, where he thundered forth against Strunz, accusing him of being an overpaid lazy mercenary. His german apparently is as basic as Paul Ince's italian, and "strunz" is the neapolitan word for "prick" (from standard italian : "stronzo"). That interview was voted funniest image of the year in Germany as I recall.

Hehe fabiana : I think Moggi copied that one from Lineker, who famously said after the WC 1990 semifinal between Germany and England : "Football is a game where you have two teams of 11 players confronting each other, and in the end the germans always win"

"Sacchi non mangerà il panettone a Milano" - some self-proclaimed football pundits in October 1987.

Translation : Sacchi will not eat the Panettone in Milan.

The Panettone is a typical italian dessert that we eat in the Christmas period. As you may well know, Sacchi joined Milan as their coach at the start of the 1987/88 season. He was only known for taking Parma from serie C1 to serie B at the time, and after a rather underperforming start, many critics predicted that this polite provincial coach would be sacked before Christmas, hence he would not be able to eat the Panettone in Milan.

But as history teaches us, Milan made a terrific comeback that year, and took the scudetto away from Maradona's Napoli two days before the end of the season with a tremendous 3-2 win in Naples' San Paolo (Napoli was still 1 point ahead of us in the table before that game, so a draw would have virtually made them Champions).

In the following years, Sacchi had the leisure to eat many Panettoni in the good city of Milan, as he became the mastermind of that inimitable Milan team who among other things demolished Real Madrid 5-0 in the 1989 European Cup semi and Steaua 4-0 in the final that same year.

"But it all comes to a point where you need new motivations. My transfer is good for everybody- for me, the both teams and even David Trezeguet. I am 29, he is 24, the future belongs to him. But, let me say it is not easy for him to score as many goals as I did!"
-Pippo Inzaghi

this is the only quote I memorize related to football anyway

dammit Pippo why the hell did you go

Another Italian classic one:

Boskov: "Rigore e' quando arbitro fischia"

Basically Boskov said "It's a penalty only when the referee whistles".

Or another Boskov quote which Mancini mentioned after Lazio's 0-4 loss against Chelsea "It's better to lose one match 4-0 than 4 matches 1-0"

 Boskov is a genius.

"I don't know if its the prettiest, but it is football that should be respected" (on Italian Football)

Does anyone remember who said something along these lines?

"David Beckham can't dribble, he can't head, and he can't kick with both feet....apart from that though, he's a decent player"
